Genetics & Origin of Auto Desfran
Auto Desfran is a cross of Desfrán and Auto Daiquiri Lime, two strains from the Dutch Passion catalogue. Desfrán is a legendary jungle Sativa with South American roots. The aim of the breeding work was a true Sativa experience without the difficult sides of pure Sativas, whose growth is hard to predict and whose nutrient needs are hard to dose. Dutch Passion therefore selected mainly for effect – the clear, energetic up high – and obtained a surprisingly compact plant in the process: short, thick branches and short to medium internodal spacing, but large leaves with slender fingers like a Sativa. The flower-to-leaf ratio is favourable, and some phenotypes turn purple in flowering. The seeds are feminised and flower independently of the light cycle. You can find more autoflowering strains in the autoflowering seeds category.
Who Is Auto Desfran For?
Auto Desfran combines a Sativa effect with uncomplicated growing. It suits:
- Sativa enthusiasts looking for a clear up high without a long flowering time
- Beginners and intermediate growers who want a robust, easy-to-grow autoflower
- Outdoor, greenhouse and guerrilla growers who need a tough plant
- Growers with little space who rely on Sea of Green or LST
- Daytime consumers who prefer an energising strain
If you are looking for a particularly fast autoflower or a low-odour grow, bear in mind the cycle of around 13 to 14 weeks and the strong aroma. You can find more autoflowering strains for outside under automatic seeds outdoor.
Growing Auto Desfran: Indoor & Outdoor
Indoor Growing
Indoors, according to Dutch Passion, Auto Desfran needs an average of 90 to 100 days from seed to harvest, i.e. around 13 to 14 weeks – longer than most autoflowers. The plants reach about one metre on average; in small pots they stay smaller and finish slightly earlier. The average yield is 450 to 500 g/m². The strain needs no special growing methods; for the highest possible yields the breeder recommends Sea of Green. If a plant gets too big, it can be bent, supercropped or kept flat with LST. It is best to sow directly into the final pot. The aroma is exceptionally pungent, and extraction with a carbon filter is a must according to the manufacturer. You will find the basics in the Growpedia.
Outdoor Growing
Outdoors, Auto Desfran needs around 100 to 115 days from seed to harvest; in damp and cool regions it can take one to two weeks longer. The manufacturer states an average of 25 to 100 g per plant, with the highest yields achieved in a greenhouse or polytunnel. The strain is robust, has good resistance to mould and rot, and is also suitable for guerrilla growing. Only grow where it is legal to do so.
Effect, Aroma & Flavour of Auto Desfran
Auto Desfran does not smell like a standard strain. A sweet-and-sour, tropical skunk aroma with notes of lemon, apple and pear is typical; some phenotypes show spicy hints of clove and aniseed. The flavour is fruity, sweet and earthy. The manufacturer does not give a lab terpene profile. The strain is prized above all for its effect: with 15 to 20% THC, Dutch Passion describes a very powerful, clear and euphoric up high with focus and energy that lasts a long time. The physical effect is minimal – not a couch-lock strain, but one for the daytime and for social occasions. According to the manufacturer, the high can be too strong for beginners. The intensity depends on dose and tolerance.
