Genetics & Origin of Auto Northern Light x Big Bud
Auto Northern Light x Big Bud brings two classics together in one autoflowering strain. World of Seeds backcrossed the cross of Northern Light and Big Bud with Ruderalis several times over four generations and speaks of an autoflowering super hybrid. The plant is Indica-dominant; the breeder does not give exact percentages. The breeder now lists it as Northern Light x Big Bud Ryder. According to the manufacturer, the THC content is 21%; no CBD value is given. The seeds are feminised, and thanks to the Ruderalis genetics the strain flowers independently of the light cycle. World of Seeds highlights the high resistance to mould and pests and mentions a first prize in the autoflower category at the Copa Natura Verde 2013 in the Canary Islands. From the same breeder you will also find Northern Light x Big Bud Early Harvest; the parent line Big Bud is available, for example, as Big Bud by Sensi Seeds.
Who Is Auto Northern Light x Big Bud For?
Auto Northern Light x Big Bud aims for yield and resin in an automatic format. It suits:
- Growers looking for two well-known classics in one autoflower
- Indoor gardeners with enough room height for plants around 130 cm tall
- Outdoor growers who plan for two harvests per season
- Lovers of sweet fruit aromas of pineapple and mandarin

It is less suitable for very low tents and for anyone looking for a stimulating daytime strain. You can find more high-yielding automatics under High Yield & Short Flowering.
Growing Auto Northern Light x Big Bud: Indoor & Outdoor
Indoor Growing
Indoors, according to World of Seeds, the strain reaches approx. 130 cm, depending on pot size, and delivers around 600 g/m². The breeder recommends a light cycle of 20/4; no switch is necessary. It gives the entire life cycle from seed to harvest as around 70 days, i.e. about 10 weeks. It does not state a pure flowering time separately; judge ripeness at the end by the trichomes. According to the breeder, the plants grow in a columnar shape with side branches of even length. The large, compact buds benefit from air movement, even though the manufacturer states a high mould resistance. You will find the basics on light and climate in the Growpedia.
Outdoor Growing
Outdoors, Auto Northern Light x Big Bud grows up to 170 cm tall; World of Seeds states a yield of more than 200 g per plant. The breeder considers two outdoor harvests per season possible, one in spring and one in late summer. According to the manufacturer, the strain is very resistant to mould and pests. A spot in full sun and a sufficiently large pot help it make use of the short time. You can find more strains for outdoors under automatic seeds outdoor. Only grow where it is legal to do so.
Effect, Aroma & Flavour of Auto Northern Light x Big Bud
According to World of Seeds, the smell is intensely fruity and sweet, with notes of pineapple and mandarin; the breeder describes the flavour as tropical. It speaks of fruity terpenes but does not give a lab terpene profile. Visually, a purple colouring of the large, resinous buds appears towards the end of flowering. The manufacturer describes the effect as physically relaxing and balancing, which fits the Indica-dominant genetics. With 21% THC, the strain is strong; World of Seeds does not state a CBD value. Dose cautiously at first and only increase once you know the strain and its strength. How intense the effect is depends on dose and personal tolerance.
