Manufacturer Information
Genetics & Origin of Big Bud aka P-99
Big Bud, also listed at Nirvana under the abbreviation P-99, is one of the breeder's oldest commercial strains. According to the strain description, it was developed with a clear goal: the highest possible yields without too great a sacrifice in quality. As genetics, Nirvana names Pre-99 Big Bud and points to a proven Skunk influence; the manufacturer does not give an exact cross. The ratio is 80% Indica and 20% Sativa. Nirvana does not put a figure on the THC content but rates it as "medium"; a percentage is missing for CBD too. The seeds are feminised and photoperiod, so flowering only begins after the switch to 12/12. If you would like to compare another breeder's line, you will also find Big Bud by Sensi Seeds in our range.
Who Is Big Bud aka P-99 For?
Big Bud aka P-99 is a classic for growers for whom weight is what counts. It suits:
- Yield-focused growers who grow in a Sea of Green
- Indoor gardeners who want to harvest after 8 to 9 weeks of flowering
- Fans of old-school genetics with a Skunk influence
- Lovers of mildly sweet, earthy aromas with a floral note
- Consumers looking for a physically relaxing Indica effect in the evening
It is less suitable for locations with unsettled autumn weather, because Nirvana sees the strain preferably in the grow room. You can find strains with a similar focus under High Yield & Short Flowering.
Growing Big Bud aka P-99: Indoor & Outdoor
Indoor Growing
Nirvana states 8 to 9 weeks of flowering and 400 to 500 g/m² in a Sea of Green. The manufacturer describes the height as medium and the growth as compact; a figure in centimetres is missing. The flowers become dense and heavy: the massive flower formation puts such a load on the side shoots that they occasionally need to be supported – you should have stakes or a net ready. With buds this compact, good air movement in the final weeks helps to keep moisture out of the canopy. The Growpedia explains how a Sea of Green is set up.
Outdoor Growing
For open ground, Nirvana is more reserved: Big Bud aka P-99 prefers indoor growing but, according to the manufacturer, can also impress outdoors in stable weather. In a mild climate, harvest falls in early to mid-October. The breeder does not state a yield per plant or an outdoor height. Choose a sunny, sheltered spot and support the heavy shoots in good time so that they do not break under the weight of the flowers and in the wind. More strains for outdoors can be found under outdoor seeds. Only grow where it is legal to do so.
Effect, Aroma & Flavour of Big Bud aka P-99
Despite the focus on yield, Big Bud aka P-99 also has something to offer in terms of flavour, according to Nirvana: the scent is sweet, earthy and slightly floral, the flavour mild and earthy-sweet with floral undertones – the breeder speaks of a classic old-school flavour. The manufacturer does not state a lab terpene profile. It describes the effect as typically Indica: physically relaxing, calming and slightly euphoric, and elsewhere also as deeply relaxing and sleep-inducing. This makes it more a strain for winding down at the end of the day than for active hours. Nirvana gives the THC content only as "medium"; a percentage is missing. How intense the effect is depends on dose and individual tolerance.
