Manufacturer Information
Genetics & Origin of Durban
Durban is named after the South African port city. According to Sensi Seeds, "dagga" has grown in the surrounding hills and plains since time immemorial, and Durban was its dominant strain; local planters value it for its high and reliable harvests, and via the port it became Africa's best-known cannabis strain. When it is allowed to grow to the limit of its potential in its homeland, it is called "Durban Poison". From this, Sensi Seeds has developed an acclimatised line that is said to thrive in the temperate north just as well as in the tropics, and describes it as one of the purest Sativa seed lines; 90% Sativa is stated. Unlike the spindly, delicate Sativas from near the equator, it branches vigorously and is robust. This item contains feminised, photoperiod seeds; we list Durban Regular by Sensi Seeds as a separate item.
Who Is Durban For?
Durban is a classic Sativa for open ground in cooler locations. It suits:
- Outdoor gardeners in temperate or cool climates, even with unsettled summers
- Growers with plenty of space for tall-growing, heavily branched plants
- Lovers of classic genetics of African origin
- Fans of lemon and aniseed aromas
- Consumers who appreciate a strong, fast-acting Sativa high
The tall-growing strain is less suitable for small grow tents, and if you are looking for a gentle effect, you should bear its strength in mind. You can find more lines rich in tradition from all over the world under Classics and Landraces.
Growing Durban: Indoor & Outdoor
Indoor Growing
The strain description is geared towards open ground; Sensi Seeds does not state any separate values for growing under artificial light. What is certain is the flowering time of 50 to 70 days and the tall growth. If you grow Durban in a grow room nonetheless, you should therefore plan for ample height, keep the vegetative phase short and switch to 12/12 early; tying down and a net help to train the many side shoots flat. The manufacturer does not give yield figures in g/m²; it speaks only of abundant yield. You will find the basics on training and climate in the Growpedia.
Outdoor Growing
Outdoors, Durban is in its element. According to Sensi Seeds, the acclimatised line thrives in the temperate north just as well as in tropical zones and is designated for cool to cold climates. The manufacturer highlights that even in really bad summers it can still deliver astonishing harvests of shiny, sticky buds. The plants grow tall and branch heavily – give them space, plenty of sun and supports if needed. Sensi Seeds does not state a harvest month, a height in centimetres or a yield per plant; there is only talk of abundant yield. Only grow where it is legal to do so.
Effect, Aroma & Flavour of Durban
According to Sensi Seeds, the flowers of Durban give off a very distinct aroma of lemon and aniseed. The manufacturer does not state a lab terpene profile or a THC value. It describes the effect in all the more detail: a strong Sativa high with a rush that sets in almost immediately and sends the head into the clouds, while the body seems to stay on the ground. Some speak of a "narcotic Sativa". In larger doses this can become a dreamy high, which nevertheless does not leave you limp the way comparably strong Indicas do. Sensi Seeds points out that the unusual strength can unsettle less practised consumers. So start low – the intensity depends on dose and individual tolerance.
