Genetics & Origin of Erdbeer No. 2 (Jurabeeri)

Erdbeer No. 2, better known in the Swiss scene as "Jurabeeri", is a direct descendant of the legendary strain "Erdbeer", which won the CannaSwisscup (Outdoor) in 2001. In the mid-2000s, Jurabeeri first appeared on the Swiss market as a clone-only strain. Compared with the original, strongly indica-leaning Erdbeer, it shows longer, thinner leaves with a distinctly sativa-leaning growth, larger buds and a higher yield. Its aroma is fruitier and skunkier – a hint that a Skunk was likely crossed into its genetics, which is why the genotype is listed as "Erdbeer x Skunk?". However, this cross is not confirmed. After a long search and intensive selection work, Helvetic Seeds succeeded in bringing this rare clone-only classic back as a stable, feminised seed version. This makes a Swiss genetic more than two decades old available as seed for the first time – a special find for collectors, fans of traditional landrace descendants, and anyone who wants to continue the Erdbeer story in their own garden or grow room. If you're after other descendants from the same Erdbeer family, Erdbeer BX2 is another exciting alternative in our range.

Who Is Erdbeer No. 2 For?

• Growers with limited space, since the strain's compact indoor height and short flowering time make it easy to cultivate

• Fans of fruity, skunky aromas and dense, resinous buds with a traditional Erdbeer heritage

Growing Erdbeer No. 2 aka Jurabeeri: Indoor & Outdoor

Indoor Growing

Indoors, Erdbeer No. 2 shows its practical strengths: with a short flowering time of just 7–8 weeks and a compact height of up to 100 cm, it's excellently suited to grow spaces with limited room. Under good conditions it delivers a solid yield of 400–500 g/m². Thanks to its dense but not extremely hard buds, it's easy to manage – adequate ventilation helps support the quality of the flowers.

Outdoor Growing

Outdoors, Jurabeeri unfolds its full potential and can grow up to 200 cm tall. Yields of up to 400 g per plant are possible. It matures between late September and early October, making it well suited to the Central European climate. As a descendant of the mould-resistant original Erdbeer, it is robust, though in humid regions it should receive a little more attention, as it is not quite as resilient as its ancestor. Only grow where it is legal to do so.

Erdbeer No. 2 – Aroma, Effect & Terpenes

In terms of taste and smell, Erdbeer No. 2 aka Jurabeeri presents itself as fruitier and skunkier than its famous ancestor. Characteristic is a sweet, berry-like aroma reminiscent of ripe strawberries, accompanied by earthy, spicy and slightly skunky notes. This aroma profile points to an interplay of typical terpenes such as myrcene, caryophyllene and limonene, which lend fruity, spicy and slightly citrusy nuances. Thanks to its indica-leaning heritage (60% Indica), the strain is generally said to have a relaxing, body-focused character, while the Sativa share can provide a balancing note. The dense, resinous buds underline the intense aroma experience and make Jurabeeri a flavourfully distinct interpretation of the classic Erdbeer profile.

Frequently Asked Questions about Erdbeer No. 2 aka Jurabeeri

Is Erdbeer No. 2 feminised?

Yes, Erdbeer No. 2 aka Jurabeeri is offered as feminised seed. This means the plants grow female with a very high probability. This eliminates the laborious task of sorting out male plants, which significantly simplifies cultivation.

Can Jurabeeri be grown both indoors and outdoors?

Yes, the strain is suitable for both cultivation methods. Indoors it stays compact at a maximum of 100 cm and flowers in 7–8 weeks; outdoors it can grow up to 200 cm tall and matures from late September to early October. Unlike the original Erdbeer, it can therefore also be grown indoors without any problems.

What yield does Erdbeer No. 2 produce?

Indoors, Jurabeeri delivers around 400–500 g/m² under good conditions. Outdoors, yields of up to 400 g per plant are possible. This makes it significantly more productive than the original Erdbeer.

What does Jurabeeri taste and smell like?

Erdbeer No. 2 is characterised by a sweet, berry-like aroma reminiscent of ripe strawberries. Compared with the original, its scent is fruitier and skunkier, accompanied by earthy, spicy notes. This is due to a typical interplay of terpenes such as myrcene, caryophyllene and limonene.

What is the difference between Erdbeer No. 2 and the original Erdbeer?

Erdbeer No. 2 is a descendant of the legendary original Erdbeer but differs in several respects. It grows more sativa-leaning with longer leaves, forms larger buds and achieves higher yields. In exchange, it is somewhat less mould-resistant and needs a slightly longer ripening time, though unlike the original it can also be grown indoors.

Where does the genetics of Erdbeer No. 2 come from?

The feminised version comes from Helvetic Seeds, who brought the rare Swiss clone-only strain back onto the market. Jurabeeri originally appeared on the Swiss market as a cutting in the mid-2000s and is considered a cross with a likely Skunk influence. The exact genotype is therefore listed as "Erdbeer x Skunk?", though this has not been conclusively confirmed.
