Manufacturer Information
Genetics & Origin of Gelato 242
According to Medical Seeds, Gelato 242 is the result of two well-known lines that were brought over from the USA. Gelato 41, a cross of Sunset Sherbert and Girl Scout Cookies, is famous for flavour and aroma, according to the breeder. Dosidos, created from Girl Scout Cookies and Face Off OG, stands, according to the manufacturer, for a high THC content and a sweet, creamy flavour with menthol. The cross produces a hybrid with 60% Indica and 40% Sativa. On the active-compound content, Medical Seeds only gives class ratings: THC high, CBD low – percentages are missing. The breeder describes a vigorous, robust plant with pyramid-shaped growth, high production and flowers in purple, reddish and pink tones. The seeds are feminised and photoperiod. Girl Scout Cookies is in both parent lines; you will find a Girl Scout Cookies by Barney's Farm in our range.
Who Is Gelato 242 For?
Gelato 242 is a strain for connoisseurs who bring patience in autumn. It suits:
- Lovers of sweet, creamy dessert aromas with a menthol note
- Growers who appreciate colourful flowers in purple, red and pink tones
- Indoor gardeners who plan for 65 to 70 days of flowering
- Outdoor gardeners in mild locations who can wait until mid or late October
- Consumers looking for a distinctly relaxing, body-focused effect
It is less suitable for regions with an early, wet autumn, because outdoors it does not ripen until mid to late October. You can find more strains of American origin under US Genetics.
Growing Gelato 242: Indoor & Outdoor
Indoor Growing
For the grow room, Medical Seeds states a vegetative phase of 3 to 4 weeks followed by a flowering time of 65 to 70 days, elsewhere 9 to 10 weeks. The breeder gives the yield as 450 g/m². The plants grow vigorous, robust and pyramid-shaped; the manufacturer does not state an indoor height. The very good calyx-to-leaf ratio means little foliage between the flowers, which makes work at harvest easier. If you want to accentuate the purple and reddish tones, you can lower the night temperatures slightly towards the end of flowering. Because of the intense aroma, a carbon filter makes sense. You will find the basics on climate and training in the Growpedia.
Outdoor Growing
Outdoors, according to the manufacturer, Gelato 242 grows 1.70 to 2.00 m tall and produces more than 500 g per plant. Harvest falls in mid to late October. Medical Seeds considers the strain well suited to outdoors too, because thanks to the favourable calyx-to-leaf ratio it carries only little foliage. Because of the late date, you need a sunny, sheltered spot and an autumn that is as dry as possible; in damp locations a greenhouse is the safer choice. You can find more strains under feminised outdoor seeds. Only grow where it is legal to do so.
Effect, Aroma & Flavour of Gelato 242
In terms of flavour, according to Medical Seeds, Gelato 242 combines the sweetness and creaminess of Gelato 41 with the bouquet of Dosidos; the breeder describes sweet, creamy notes with menthol and a flavour that lingers in the mouth for a long time. The manufacturer does not state a lab terpene profile. It gives the effect as distinct and strongly relaxing, often combined with physical well-being. This makes Gelato 242 more of a strain for after work than for active hours. Medical Seeds rates the THC content as high and the CBD content as low; the breeder does not state specific percentages, and we deliberately do not add an estimate. How intense the effect is depends on dose and individual tolerance.
