Genetics & Origin of Golden Tiger
For Golden Tiger, Ace Seeds combined several extremely potent, resinous Sativas from Malawi and Thailand. The current version contains two Thai strains, Koh Chang Thai and Hmong Thai, as well as two different Malawi parents: the Old Malawi Killer and the third-generation New Malawi Killer. Compared with its predecessor, according to the breeder, it has a stronger Thai influence, more yield and finer aromas. The result is a 100% Sativa hybrid with great vegetative vigour, heavily branched, elegant growth, thin leaves and medium internodal spacing. The flowers form dense buds with small leaves and large, numerous trichomes. Ace Seeds states 20 to 25% THC, under 1% CBD and up to 1.1% CBG. The seeds are feminised and photoperiod. Another strain from the breeder that carries Malawi in its name is Purple Haze x Malawi.
Who Is Golden Tiger For?
Golden Tiger is a Sativa for people with time and curiosity. It suits:
- Sativa lovers looking for an alternative to Haze strains
- Patient growers who can plan for 11 to 15 weeks of flowering
- Indoor gardeners who work with SCROG or with cuttings in a Sea of Green
- Discerning growers looking for a new, true Sativa experience
- Consumers with a lot of experience who appreciate a very strong, long-lasting high
If you want to harvest quickly or have little experience as a consumer, you are better served by a shorter-flowering, milder strain. You can find more strains of this kind under Sativa strains.
Growing Golden Tiger: Indoor & Outdoor
Indoor Growing
Flowering takes 11 to 15 weeks indoors. For small, columnar plants or a Sea of Green, Ace Seeds recommends switching cuttings to 12/12 just a few days after rooting. The strain is equally suitable for SCROG and horizontal training on a net, because the side branches bear very well and the plant responds vigorously to pruning. For feeding, the breeder advises low to medium amounts over the entire cycle, especially of nitrogen. It calls the yield high; a figure in g/m² is missing. Resistance to botrytis is given as very high, to mildew and spider mites as average. There is more on nets and pruning in the Growpedia.
Outdoor Growing
According to Ace Seeds, Golden Tiger shows its full potential in tropical and subtropical climates; however, there were also very good results up to the 43rd parallel. The breeder names 0° to 43° as the range, and outdoors harvest falls in November. Central Europe lies north of that, so here the strain is primarily something for the grow room. The breeder gives heat resistance as high and cold resistance as average to high. The manufacturer does not state a yield per plant. Only grow where it is legal to do so.
Effect, Aroma & Terpenes of Golden Tiger
Golden Tiger tastes of floral, spicy and lemony Thai aromas against an organic, resinous Malawi background. Ace Seeds describes the terpene profile as complex: a great deal of beta-myrcene, followed by smaller amounts of limonene, linalool, ocimene, isopulegol, alpha- and beta-pinene, camphene and terpinolene. Among the sesquiterpenes, nerolidol 2 predominates, followed by beta-caryophyllene; nerolidol 1 and humulene occur only in traces. The breeder describes the effect as the extreme effect of a psychedelic Sativa: dense, stimulating and very long-lasting. It expressly warns that it can be devastating for beginners and recommends Golden Tiger only to very experienced Sativa consumers. At 20 to 25% THC, restraint is called for: how intense the high is depends on dose and individual tolerance.
