The Sensi Empire
Ben Dronkers, Neville and the Preservation of Genetics

The story of Sensi Seeds is far more than a typical company history. It is the chronicle of how valuable cannabis genetics were preserved, stabilized, and made accessible worldwide. Three key pillars support this empire: Ben Dronkers, Neville Schoenmakers, and later the pragmatic expansion through White Label.
Before Sensi Seeds became a global brand, there was The Seed Bank. Its founder, the Australian-Dutch breeder Neville Schoenmakers, is still regarded as one of the most influential pioneers of modern cannabis breeding.
In the 1980s, Neville introduced groundbreaking US genetics – including early Skunk and Haze lines – to the Netherlands. In his legendary “Cannabis Castle,” he selected mother plants that later formed the foundation of many modern classics. Strains such as Northern Lights #5, stable Skunk lines, and refined Haze genetics are largely rooted in his work.
In the mid-1980s, Neville crossed paths with Ben Dronkers. While Neville was considered a breeding genius, Ben was the visionary collector and entrepreneur. During his travels to the Hindu Kush and Southeast Asia, Ben gathered invaluable landrace genetics.
In 1991, Ben Dronkers acquired “The Seed Bank” from Neville and merged it with his Sensi Seed Club. This union marked a turning point in modern cannabis breeding.
By integrating Neville’s groundbreaking hybrids into the Sensi Seeds archive, timeless legends were created, including Jack Herer, which combined Neville’s Haze genetics with robust Indica lines. Sensi Seeds evolved into a vault safeguarding some of the world’s most valuable cannabis DNA.
As success grew, Sensi Seeds established itself as a premium brand. To make high-quality genetics accessible to a broader audience, the White Label Seed Company was founded.
White Label followed a clear philosophy: focus on pure genetics without elaborate packaging or heavy marketing. At the same time, it served as an innovation platform, introducing early feminized seeds and autoflowering versions.
Classics such as White Widow and Orange Bud were offered in reliable quality at more accessible prices – a “no-frills” strategy that helped spread Sensi genetics into gardens worldwide.
Today, Sensi Seeds is more than a company – it is a cultural legacy within the cannabis world. Through projects like the Hash Marihuana & Hemp Museum and the industrial hemp work of HempFlax, Ben Dronkers carried the vision forward into the modern era.
Neville Schoenmakers passed away in 2019, but his influence lives on in countless genetic lines. Every Northern Lights plant flowering around the world today carries a piece of that enduring legacy.
