Genetics & Origin of Killer A5 Haze
Killer A5 Haze goes back to a rare Dutch elite clone: according to Ace Seeds, A5 Haze, a Northern Lights #5 / Haze A, comes from the Haze hybrids that Nevil Schoenmakers developed in the late 80s. By the breeder's account it is rare because the Haze A male was lost early on and seeds were never produced with it in commercial quantities. Ace Seeds crossed this mother with killer phenotypes of its own Malawi in order to preserve potency, vigour and yield, to increase resin production and to shorten the long flowering time of A5 Haze. The data sheet states 80% Sativa and 20% Indica, 23 to 30% THC, no CBD and 0.3% CBG. The breeder describes four phenotypes, from the Haze-dominant to the silvery Malawi type, and thanks Karma for preserving the A5 mother. The seeds are feminised and photoperiod. From the same breeder, the shop also stocks Panama A5 Haze.
Who Is Killer A5 Haze For?
Killer A5 Haze is a demanding Sativa for connoisseurs. It suits:
- Experienced growers who can plan for 9 to 12 weeks of flowering
- Haze lovers looking for old-school aromas with incense and wood
- Selectors who want to choose from four described phenotypes
- SOG and SCROG growers with powerful lighting
- Outdoor gardeners in regions with a hot summer and a warm, dry autumn
It is less suitable for beginners and for consumers with low tolerance: Ace Seeds expressly recommends the strain only to very experienced users. You can find comparably strong strains under Super High THC Content.
Growing Killer A5 Haze: Indoor & Outdoor
Indoor Growing
Indoors, Killer A5 Haze flowers for 9 to 12 weeks. Depending on the phenotype, Ace Seeds states 66 to 80 days for the NL/Haze type, 75 to 85 days for the two Malawi-influenced types and 75 to 90 days for the Haze-dominant type. The plants grow branched with medium internodal spacing and, according to the breeder, remain manageable in size and stretch. It describes the yield as very high without stating a figure in g/m². Generous feeding throughout the entire cycle and strong light intensity are recommended. Because of the large yield in the main cola, the strain is suited to SOG, and because of the productive side branches and the vigorous response to pruning, also to SCROG and net growing. The basics on this can be found in the Growpedia.
Outdoor Growing
Outdoors, according to Ace Seeds, harvest takes place from late October to early November. By the breeder's account, growing is possible up to the 43rd parallel; because of its large, dense flowers, the strain is said to work best in regions with hot summers and warm, dry autumn weather. The data sheet rates resistance to powdery mildew as high and to botrytis as medium. The manufacturer does not give a yield per plant or a plant height. Only grow where it is legal to do so.
Effect, Aroma & Terpenes of Killer A5 Haze
Ace Seeds describes the bouquet as a dark, incense-like Haze aroma of the old Dutch school: meaty, with a strong organic background and notes of decomposing flower petals, resin and aged wood. Depending on the phenotype, incense and wood come more to the fore. As the terpene profile, the breeder names above all beta-myrcene in high amounts, plus smaller amounts of limonene and, as a sesquiterpene, beta-caryophyllene. It describes the high as extraordinarily powerful, complex and long-lasting – with a psychedelic onset that strongly alters perception, followed by cheerfulness and an introspective, very physical finish. Ace Seeds warns that the strain can trigger panic in those with low tolerance or no experience of strong Sativas. At 23 to 30% THC, caution is advisable; the intensity depends on dose and tolerance.
