Manufacturer Information
Genetics & Origin of Laughing Buddha
Laughing Buddha was created by crossing a Thai landrace with a Jamaican hybrid Sativa; the data sheet simply says Thai × Jamaican. Barney's Farm states 80% Sativa and 20% Indica and speaks of an almost pure Sativa. This fits with the longer flowering time of 70 to 75 days. According to the breeder, patience is rewarded with large, dense flowers and high resin production. The seeds are feminised and photoperiod, so flowering only begins after the light cycle is switched. The manufacturer rates the THC content as high but does not give a percentage. Another strain with a Thai background in our range is Wild Thailand by World of Seeds.
Who Is Laughing Buddha For?
Laughing Buddha is a Sativa for growers with experience and patience. It suits:
- Experienced growers who can plan for 70 to 75 days of flowering
- Sativa lovers looking for an energetic, creative high
- Outdoor gardeners in warm climates with a dry late autumn
- Aroma fans who like pineapple, lemon and spicy notes
- Consumers who prefer a sociable daytime strain
The strain is less suitable for a first grow and for regions with an early, wet autumn. You can find more feminised strains for the grow room under indoor strains.
Growing Laughing Buddha: Indoor & Outdoor
Indoor Growing
Indoors, Laughing Buddha flowers for 70 to 75 days, i.e. a good ten weeks. Barney's Farm states a height of 100 to 110 cm and a yield of 500 to 600 g/m². The strain develops dense, heavy flowers with plenty of resin and, according to the manufacturer, needs support in the final weeks of flowering – so put stakes or a net in place in good time. Because of the longer flowering time, the breeder recommends it to experienced growers, and that is also how we rate it. Over the long flowering period, a stable climate and consistent feeding pay off. You will find the basics on climate and training in the Growpedia.
Outdoor Growing
Outdoors, according to the manufacturer, Laughing Buddha is suited to warm climates. The plants grow 120 to 150 cm tall, and harvest falls in the third to fourth week of October. Barney's Farm states 700 to 800 g per plant. The late ripening is the critical point: where October turns cool and wet, the strain can hardly ripen reliably. Outdoors, too, the heavy flowers need support. Only grow where it is legal to do so.
Effect, Aroma & Flavour of Laughing Buddha
According to Barney's Farm, the scent of Laughing Buddha is sweet and fresh and reminiscent of exotic fruit. For the flavour, the manufacturer cites roasted pepper, pineapple, lemon and herbs – a mix of fruit and spice. The manufacturer does not give a lab terpene profile. It describes the effect as energising, creative, focused, euphoric and sociable. Accordingly, Barney's Farm sees the strain for daytime use, for creative activities and in company. The THC content is given as high, without a percentage; we do not add an estimate here. With a strain with a high THC content, dose cautiously at first. How intense the effect turns out to be depends on dose and individual tolerance.
Note: Effect information is based on manufacturer data and user experience and does not constitute medical advice.
