Genetics & Origin of Mazar
Mazar is one of the classics in the Dutch Passion catalogue: the original was created in the eighties from a special Skunk #1 and a highly prized Afghani, and the genetics were improved in 1997. The breeder calls it a true Afghani hash plant with extremely high resin production and great potency and counts it among its best-selling strains. Dutch Passion describes it as Indica-dominant with around 20% THC under good conditions. Dutch Passion lists several awards: 2nd place at the High Times Cannabis Cup 1999, 2nd place at the High Life Cup 2002, 1st place Tipo Forte in Bologna 2008 and "Plant of the Year" from Soft Secrets Magazine 2014. This product contains regular seeds, which grow into male and female plants. The Skunk side of the lineage is available on its own, for example as Skunk No. 1 Regular by Sensi Seeds.
Who Is Mazar For?
Mazar is a resin-rich classic for growers who want to work with regular seeds. It suits:
- Experienced growers looking for a vigorous, tough Indica line
- Selectors who want to choose a mother plant from regular seeds
- Hobby breeders who use male plants for their own crosses
- Hashish and extract lovers who value plenty of resin
- Consumers who appreciate a very physical, relaxing effect
Mazar is less suitable for a first grow: we rate it as a strain for experienced growers, and regular seeds additionally require the female plants to be selected. You can find more regular lines under regular seeds.
Growing Mazar: Indoor & Outdoor
Indoor Growing
Dutch Passion describes Mazar as a Christmas-tree-shaped plant whose heavy branches bring good harvests. The breeder states an average of 8 to 9 weeks of flowering, with individual phenotypes needing 9 to 10 weeks at most; a yield of 400 to 500 g/m² is possible, and the plants stay medium-sized. Support may be needed at the end of flowering, and the strain develops remarkably strong odours – a powerful activated carbon filter is therefore advisable. With regular seeds, germinate more seeds than the number of plants you want to keep, determine the sex in pre-flowering and remove the male plants unless pollination is wanted. Flowering only begins after the switch to 12/12. You will find the basics in the Growpedia.
Outdoor Growing
For open ground, Dutch Passion does not give any figures for height, yield per plant or harvest date. According to Dutch Passion, Mazar can also be grown outdoors in sunnier, warmer climate zones; in more temperate locations, the breeder advises protection such as a greenhouse. So plan for a warm, sheltered spot and support the heavy branches in good time. The breeder expressly highlights its vigour and toughness. You can find more regular strains for outdoors under regular outdoor seeds. Only grow where it is legal to do so.
Effect, Aroma & Flavour of Mazar
According to Dutch Passion, the flowers of Mazar are sticky and very aromatic: sweet and earthy, with the taste of Afghani hash and a hint of pine and citrus fruit. The manufacturer does not give a lab terpene profile. The breeder describes the effect as strong and very physical, powerful yet relaxing – a cheerful, cosy and numbing combination with a contemplative, meditative mental side. The manufacturer gives the THC content as around 20% under good conditions. With regular seeds you should also expect differences between individual plants. How intense the effect is depends on phenotype, dose and individual tolerance.
