Mazar Seeds – Skunk #1 × Afghani, Classic by Dutch Passion
What is Mazar? Mazar by Dutch Passion is a feminised, photoperiod and Indica-dominant strain that was created in the 1980s from a special Skunk #1 and an Afghani and was reworked in 1997. The breeder describes it as a true Afghani hash plant with extremely high resin production, great potency and Christmas-tree-shaped growth; it does not give figures for THC, flowering time or yield. Sweet, earthy aromas of Afghani hash and a very physical, relaxing effect are typical. In the shop, the multiple award-winning strain is rated for experienced growers – in the Classics and Landraces category. Available in packs of 3 and 10 seeds.

Genetics & Origin of Mazar
Mazar is one of the best-known strains from Dutch Passion. The original is a classic from the eighties and was created from a special Skunk #1 that was crossed with a highly prized Afghani; in 1997 the breeder improved the genetics. Dutch Passion counts it among the strongest and best strains the house has ever developed, and among its best-selling ones. The list of awards ranges from 2nd place at the HTCC 1999, through 2nd place at the High Life Cup 2002 and 1st place at the Tipo Forte in Bologna 2008, to “Plant of the Year” from Soft Secrets Magazine 2014. Mazar was also one of the first Dutch Passion strains to be available as feminised seeds. Other seed banks have bred on with it; in our range, for example, Mazar x White Rhino by World of Seeds carries the strain in its name.
Who Is Mazar For?
Mazar is a resin-rich classic that we list as a strain for experienced growers because its outdoor harvest is rated as late. It suits:
- Experienced growers looking for a vigorous, tough plant
- Hash fans who want an extremely resin-rich Afghani plant
- Collectors of award-winning classics from the 1980s
- Indoor growers with good air extraction who are not afraid of strong scents
- Consumers who appreciate a very physical, relaxing effect
If you have to grow inconspicuously or want to harvest early outdoors, Mazar is a less good choice for you. You can find more Indica-leaning strains under Indica strains.
Growing Mazar: Indoor & Outdoor
Indoor Growing
According to Dutch Passion, Mazar grows in the shape of a Christmas tree, with heavy branches that carry good harvests. The breeder highlights the strain's vigour and toughness. At the end of flowering it may need support, and it produces remarkably strong scents – a powerful carbon filter is therefore part of the basic equipment. Dutch Passion does not give figures for flowering time, height or yield in the strain description; in the shop, Mazar is rated at 8 to 10 weeks of flowering, over 110 cm in height and 400 to 500 g/m², which is to be understood only as an approximation. As a photoperiod strain, it only flowers after the switch to 12/12. You will find the basics on climate and air extraction in the Growpedia.
Outdoor Growing
Dutch Passion gives no information of its own for open ground. In the shop, the harvest is rated as late, from November, with very tall growth of over 220 cm – these too are approximations, but they explain why we see Mazar as one for experienced growers. A warm, sheltered spot with a long, dry autumn or a greenhouse is therefore the safe choice, and the heavy branches should be supported in good time. The manufacturer does not state an outdoor yield per plant. Only grow where it is legal to do so.
Effect, Aroma & Flavour of Mazar
According to Dutch Passion, the flowers of Mazar are sticky and very aromatic: sweet and earthy, with the flavour of Afghani hash and a hint of pine and citrus fruit. The manufacturer does not give a lab terpene profile. It describes the effect as strong and very physical, mighty and yet relaxing – a cheerful, cosy and numbing combination with a contemplative, meditative note. That fits the picture of an Afghani hash plant with extremely high resin production. Dutch Passion does not give a THC value in the strain description but speaks of great potency; in the shop, Mazar is rated in the 11 to 19% class, which is to be understood only as an approximation. How intense the effect is depends on dose and individual tolerance.
