Manufacturer Information
Genetics & Origin of New York City
Pyramid Seeds simply gives New York City Diesel as the genetics of New York City; the breeder does not say in the strain description which parents this line came from. The genotype is 70% Sativa and 30% Indica. The manufacturer puts the THC content at 18 to 20% and itself classes it as medium; the CBD content is low. The outstanding mould resistance is highlighted, which makes the strain interesting for various growing methods and for open ground. The seeds are feminised, and the strain is photoperiod – so flowering only sets in when the light cycle is switched to 12/12. You will find a Diesel strain with a related name from another breeder in our range: NY Diesel by Vision Seeds.
Who Is New York City For?
New York City demands patience and some experience and rewards you for it with a strong citrus aroma. It suits:
- Experienced growers who can plan for 75 days of flowering
- Sativa lovers looking for a cerebral, stimulating high
- Fans of lemon aromas with an earthy undertone
- Outdoor gardeners in locations with a long, mild autumn
- Growers who work with hydroponic systems
The strain is less suitable for a first grow: flowering takes over ten weeks, and outdoors harvest is not until the end of October. Faster alternatives are listed under High Yield & Short Flowering.
Growing New York City: Indoor & Outdoor
Indoor Growing
According to Pyramid Seeds, the flowering time indoors is 75 days, i.e. about ten to eleven weeks. The manufacturer states a yield of 500 g/m²; for an area of 1.5 m² under a 720-watt LED it gives 800 to 850 g. The strain is also suitable for hydroponic systems. The breeder rates the difficulty level as medium: it needs attention to detail and, in its words, is manageable for experienced growers. There is no information on plant height; with a Sativa-dominant strain you should keep an eye on the stretch after the switch. You will find the basics on climate and training in the Growpedia.
Outdoor Growing
Outdoors, Pyramid Seeds names the fourth week of October as the harvest time for Europe – that is late and requires a long, mild autumn. Depending on conditions, the yield is 0.5 to 1.5 kg per plant. According to the manufacturer, the outstanding mould resistance makes the strain a good choice for outdoor growing in different climate zones; a sunny, sheltered spot nevertheless remains the safe choice. Only grow where it is legal to do so.
Effect, Aroma & Flavour of New York City
According to the manufacturer, New York City smells strongly of lemon – refreshing, with subtle earthy undertones. The flavour is also dominated by citrus notes; Pyramid Seeds speaks of a bright, clean profile. The manufacturer does not give a lab terpene profile. It describes the effect as purely cerebral: a creative, euphoric high with a burst of energy that is said to provide focus for creative projects and active pursuits. This makes New York City more of a strain for the daytime than for late in the evening. The THC content is 18 to 20%, and the CBD content is low. How strongly you feel the effect depends on the dose and your personal tolerance.
