Manufacturer Information
Genetics & Origin of Original Amnesia
For Silent Seeds, Original Amnesia is nothing other than the strain that helped shape the reputation of Amsterdam's coffeeshops in the early 2000s. The breeder calls it a great classic of recent cannabis history that it wanted to preserve in its own catalogue. It gives the lineage as Original Amnesia × Original Amnesia; the genotype is 70% Sativa and 30% Indica. Silent Seeds emphasises that it flowers very quickly for a photoperiod Sativa hybrid. The THC content is 15 to 23%, the CBD content 0.01 to 0.2%. For the cutting (“cut”) of Original Amnesia, the breeder lists five cup placings between 2012 and 2016, including the overall win at the Highlife Cup 2014. The seeds are feminised. An Amnesia line from another breeder is Amnesia Haze by Nirvana.
Who Is Original Amnesia For?
Original Amnesia combines Haze character with a flowering time that is short for Sativas. It suits:
- Haze lovers who appreciate citrus, cedar and incense notes
- Indoor growers who want to harvest after 65 days of flowering
- Outdoor gardeners with plenty of space and a long, mild autumn
- Collectors of classic coffeeshop genetics
- Consumers who prefer an activating, euphoric high
It is less suitable for small gardens or regions with an early, wet autumn: outdoors the manufacturer states a height of 3.5 m and a harvest in mid to late October. You can find more classics under Classics and Landraces.
Growing Original Amnesia: Indoor & Outdoor
Indoor Growing
Silent Seeds gives the flowering time indoors as 65 days and the yield as 600 g/m². The manufacturer does not state a height in centimetres for indoor growing; according to its description, however, the plants grow hardly any taller than most Indica hybrids. Flowering only begins after the switch to 12/12. The breeder also describes the strain as resistant to mould and insect pests. A net helps to distribute the shoots evenly under the light, and a carbon filter holds back the Haze smell. There is more on climate and training in the Growpedia.
Outdoor Growing
Outdoors, Original Amnesia shows its Sativa heritage: Silent Seeds states a height of 3.5 m and 1,200 g per plant. Harvest is in mid to late October. So you need plenty of space, a sunny spot and an autumn that stays dry enough into the second half of October; in locations with early frost or constant rain it gets tight. The resistance to mould and insects stated by the manufacturer benefits the strain in this late phase. Sturdy supports secure the long shoots against wind. Only grow where it is legal to do so.
Effect, Aroma & Flavour of Original Amnesia
For flavour, the Silent Seeds data sheet simply says “sweet and fruity”. The manufacturer goes into more detail elsewhere: there it names a fresh aroma with citrus, Haze, cedar and incense notes as well as spices. The breeder does not name individual terpenes or a lab terpene profile. Silent Seeds describes the effect as a strong Sativa high that stimulates and puts you in a euphoric mood and then turns into physical relaxation. This makes the strain more suited to active hours than to the late evening. According to the manufacturer the THC content is 15 to 23%, the CBD content 0.01 to 0.2%. With this range, the strength can vary noticeably from plant to plant; how intense the effect is also depends on dose and individual tolerance.
