Power Plant Regular – Sativa Classic by Dutch Passion
What is Power Plant? Power Plant by Dutch Passion is a regular, photoperiod and predominantly Sativa cannabis strain with roots in South Africa, which the breeder has offered since 1997 and, by its own account, has maintained only through inbreeding and never hybridised. It flowers for 8 to 9 weeks on average and, according to the manufacturer, yields 500 to 600 g/m². Long flowers with few leaves, a fresh aroma and a strong up high are typical. The seeds grow into male and female plants – interesting for selectors in the regular Sativa strains category. Available in a pack of 10 seeds.

Manufacturer Information
Genetics & Origin of Power Plant
Power Plant came onto the market in 1997 and, according to Dutch Passion, was an immediate great success: shortly after its release every coffeeshop wanted to have it on the menu, and to this day it can be found in many Dutch coffeeshops. The genetics come from South Africa. The breeder emphasises that it has continued the line exclusively through inbreeding and never hybridised it; the original, it says, is available only from it. Dutch Passion describes Power Plant as predominantly Sativa with a small Indica share, without stating percentages. The manufacturer rates the THC content as high and does not give a figure. In 2016, according to Dutch Passion, the strain won first prize in the Sativa category at the Lift Expo in Vancouver; two further placings at Canadian cups were added in the same year. An autoflowering version is Auto Power Plant.
Who Is Power Plant For?
As regular seed, Power Plant is interesting above all for growers who want to select and carry on working with it. It suits:
- Selectors looking for a mother plant of their own from ten seeds
- Hobby breeders who use male plants for crosses
- Collectors of classic, non-hybridised lines
- Sativa fans who appreciate long flowers and an up high
- Growers in warm locations or with a greenhouse
It is less suitable if you want exclusively female plants without any selection work – in that case feminised seed is the better choice. You can find more proven lines under Classics and Landraces.
Growing Power Plant: Indoor & Outdoor
Indoor Growing
According to Dutch Passion, flowering takes 8 to 9 weeks on average; individual phenotypes need 10 to 11 weeks. The manufacturer gives two figures for height: 75 to 125 cm on average, and elsewhere 1 to 1.5 m. The flowers often grow longer than 30 cm and carry little foliage. Dutch Passion states 500 to 600 g/m² as the yield, and 600 to 750 g/m² with a well-practised growing routine. Because these are regular seeds, it is best to germinate more seeds than the number of plants you want to keep and determine the sex in pre-flowering; male plants are removed if no pollination is wanted. You will find the basics on this in the Growpedia.
Outdoor Growing
Dutch Passion also recommends Power Plant for greenhouse and open ground and highlights Mediterranean areas. Outdoors, several kilograms per plant are said to be possible; the manufacturer does not state an exact figure or a height for outside. In the shop, harvest is classed as October, so a sunny spot with a dry autumn is important. Only grow where it is legal to do so.
Effect, Aroma & Flavour of Power Plant
Dutch Passion describes the aroma of Power Plant as fresh, with woody, spicy, earthy and floral notes. The breeder calls the smoke smooth and mild, with a sweetish aftertaste. The manufacturer does not name individual terpenes. According to its information, the effect is a strong up high: energetic and euphoric, later turning into relaxation. That fits the Sativa character and makes the strain more of a companion for the daytime. Dutch Passion rates the THC content as high, without stating a percentage. With regular seeds, individual plants can also differ from one another. How intense the effect is depends on phenotype, dose and personal tolerance.
Note: Effect information is based on manufacturer data and user experience and does not constitute medical advice.
