Purple Nr. 1 Seeds – Outdoor Classic by Dutch Passion
What is Purple Nr. 1? Purple Nr. 1 by Dutch Passion is a feminised, photoperiod outdoor strain with 50% each of Sativa and Indica, whose history goes back to the early 1980s. Its Indica side comes from a Purple Afghani; it grows 1.5 to 2.5 metres tall and, according to the manufacturer, yields 250 to 350 g per plant. Purple-red flowers, a fruity scent and a fast-onset, rather stimulating high are typical. The breeder recommends it only for outdoors or the greenhouse. It suits gardeners looking for a robust, fast-flowering strain for open ground – in the outdoor seeds category. Available in packs of 3 and 10 seeds.

Genetics & Origin of Purple Nr. 1
Purple Nr. 1, also written Purple #1 by Dutch Passion, is one of the classic Purple strains and goes back to the early 1980s. The breeder describes it as a 50:50 mix of Sativa and Indica. The Indica side comes from a special Purple Afghani that was crossed in the Netherlands with further Indica and Sativa strains – with the aim of creating a strong outdoor plant that is fully adapted to the Dutch climate. According to Dutch Passion, other seed banks have also used the strain for their own breeding, and it has had a loyal fan base for decades. The manufacturer does not state a THC value. The seeds offered here are feminised and photoperiod. If you want to select or breed yourself, you will find the same strain in our range as Purple Nr. 1 Regular.
Who Is Purple Nr. 1 For?
Purple Nr. 1 is a strain for the garden, not for the tent. It suits:
- Outdoor gardeners in locations with a climate like that of the Netherlands
- Growers with a greenhouse and room for plants 1.5 to 2.5 metres tall
- Lovers of purple-red flowers and leaves
- Collectors of classic genetics from the 1980s
- Consumers who like a fresh, rather stimulating high
It is less suitable for purely indoor growers: Dutch Passion expressly lists it only for outdoors and the greenhouse. You can find more heritage strains under Classics and Landraces.
Growing Purple Nr. 1: Indoor & Outdoor
Indoor Growing
Purple Nr. 1 is not intended for classic indoor growing under artificial light: Dutch Passion describes it as a strain that is only suitable for outdoors or for greenhouse cultivation. The breeder does not state a flowering time in weeks or a yield in g/m². Under glass you benefit from protection against rain but have to keep an eye on the height, because the plants usually grow 1.5 to 2.5 metres tall. Ventilate the greenhouse regularly so that the resinous flowers stay dry, and plan for enough distance between the plants. You will find the basics on location and care in the Growpedia.
Outdoor Growing
Outdoors, Purple Nr. 1 plays to its strengths. Dutch Passion describes it as a fast-flowering, tough outdoor plant. It grows 1.5 to 2.5 metres tall; according to the manufacturer, the yield potential is 250 to 350 g per plant. Soon after flowering sets in, the calyxes turn purple, and the often Sativa-like fan leaves also show purple-red tones. The breeder does not state a harvest date; we place the harvest in October. Give the plants a sunny spot. Only grow where it is legal to do so.
Effect, Aroma & Flavour of Purple Nr. 1
According to Dutch Passion, Purple Nr. 1 delivers sticky, fruity-scented, purple-red flowers. The buds are interspersed with small, sticky purple leaflets that grow out between resin-soaked calyxes. The breeder describes the aroma as slightly rough but profound. The manufacturer does not give a lab terpene profile. The high sets in quickly and is more “up-high” than “stoned”, i.e. more stimulating than heavy; according to the manufacturer, it is not one of the longest, which the quality of the effect is said to more than make up for. Dutch Passion speaks of a fresh, potent high but does not state a THC value. With us, the strain is placed in the 11 to 19% class, which is only an approximation. How intense the effect is depends on dose and individual tolerance.
Note: Effect information is based on manufacturer data and user experience and does not constitute medical advice.
