Genetics & Origin of Runtz
Runtz is one of the best-known dessert strains of recent years. The Barney's Farm version is a cross of Zkittlez and Gelato, two strains known for their sweet, fruity terpene profiles. The result is a balanced hybrid with 50% Indica and 50% Sativa which, according to the manufacturer, can be grown in cold, hot and temperate climates. What stands out is the very high THC content, which Barney's Farm gives as 25 to 29%. The flowers are thick and resinous and coated in a solid layer of trichomes that gives them a glittering, frosty appearance. The seeds are feminised and photoperiod. If you would like to get to know the parent lines, you will find related genetics from other breeders in our range with Gelato and Zkittlez 2.0.

Growing Runtz: Indoor & Outdoor
Indoor Growing
Runtz is a fast-growing plant that ripens indoors in just 55 to 60 days of flowering and keeps a modest height of 90 to 110 cm. Barney's Farm gives the yield as 550 to 650 g/m². This makes it suitable for predictable, short runs. The thick, resinous flowers benefit from good air circulation and controlled humidity in the final weeks; a net or light tying down ensures an even canopy. The sweet aroma with a touch of diesel is clearly noticeable, so a carbon filter makes sense. You will find the basics on climate and training in the Growpedia.
Outdoor Growing
Outdoors, Runtz grows 150 to 180 cm tall and is ready to harvest as early as the third to fourth week of September – early enough to get ahead of the autumn damp in many regions. The manufacturer states up to 1.5 kg per plant and rates the strain as suitable for cold, hot and temperate climate zones. Only grow where it is legal to do so.
Effect, Aroma & Flavour of Runtz
Runtz offers a sweet, fruity terpene profile with a hint of sour citrus fruit that lingers on the palate for a long time. The data sheet sums up the aroma as tropical fruit, diesel and sweets, and the flavour as sweets, fruity and skunk diesel. The manufacturer does not give a lab terpene profile. As effects, Barney's Farm lists relaxation, euphoria, an uplifting effect and creativity – in keeping with the balanced 50/50 genetics. With 25 to 29% THC, Runtz is one of the strongest strains in our range and is intended for experienced consumers. How intense the effect is depends on dose and individual tolerance.
