Manufacturer Information
Genetics & Origin of Shaman
Shaman is one of the long-serving strains from Dutch Passion; according to the breeder, its roots go back to the early 1980s. An exceptional male Purple #1 and a high-quality female Skunk were crossed. The result is an F1 hybrid with a strong heterosis effect, which Dutch Passion describes as reliable and robust. The genotype is Sativa-dominant with only a small Indica share; the manufacturer does not state percentages. It rates the THC content as medium without giving a figure. The strain is photoperiod, and this item contains regular seeds: male and female plants are produced, which allows selection and breeding work of your own. The father line is also available in our range – as Purple Nr. 1 Regular from the same breeder.
Who Is Shaman For?
Shaman is a robust open-ground strain with a long history. It suits:
- Outdoor and greenhouse growers who want to harvest in late September
- Gardeners in damper locations who value mould resistance
- Selectors who choose a mother plant from regular seeds
- Hobby breeders who would like to carry on working with male plants
- Lovers of purple-coloured flowers and a stimulating Sativa high
Shaman is less suitable if you want only female plants without any selection work or grow exclusively under artificial light – Dutch Passion did not breed the strain for that. You can find more regular Sativas under regular Sativa strains.
Growing Shaman: Indoor & Outdoor
Indoor Growing
Dutch Passion bred Shaman for open ground and greenhouse; the manufacturer does not describe growing under artificial light. Under glass, according to its figures, the strain is ready for harvest after 7 to 9 weeks of flowering on average and grows 2 to 3 m tall. As a yield per area, the breeder states about 400 g/m², without specifying the growing location for it. If you nevertheless raise the photoperiod strain in a grow room, you should allow for the widely spaced internodes and the Sativa growth and switch to 12/12 early. With regular seeds, you determine the sex in pre-flowering and remove male plants unless pollination is wanted. More on this in the Growpedia.
Outdoor Growing
Outdoors, according to Dutch Passion, Shaman ripens from late September to early October. The plants grow 1 to 2 m tall on average, and with a long pre-growing period even over 3 m. In the greenhouse, according to the manufacturer, several hundred grams per plant are possible; with large pots and a long vegetative phase the breeder states about 500 to 750 g. It regards Shaman as very resistant to bud rot and fungi, without being immune to them; Dutch Passion also cites resistance to spider mites. Only grow where it is legal to do so.
Effect, Aroma & Flavour of Shaman
Dutch Passion describes the flavour of Shaman as soft, sweet and slightly woody – the typical Purple flavour. Elsewhere the breeder cites a fresh, fruity and spicy aroma, sometimes with a sour or pine-like note, and a sweet and spicy flavour. It speaks of a complex terpene profile but does not list any individual terpenes. According to the breeder, the effect is a stimulating, predominantly cerebral Sativa high. There are two descriptions of the strength: the THC content is rated as medium and the effect as medium-strength and of medium duration, while elsewhere the manufacturer calls the hybrid highly potent. With regular seeds, individual plants differ anyway. How intense the effect is depends on dose and personal tolerance.
