Manufacturer Information
Genetics & Origin of Shaman
Shaman is one of the long-established strains from Dutch Passion; its history goes back to the early 1980s. It is an F1 hybrid of an exceptional male Purple #1 and a high-quality female Skunk. The breeder describes a strong heterosis effect, i.e. the particular vigour of a first cross generation. The plants are Sativa-dominant with only a small Indica share; Dutch Passion does not give percentages, but a ratio of about 75% Sativa to 25% Indica is stated. This also shows in their growth: elegant plants with wide spacing between the large flowers. The data sheet rates the THC content as medium, without a percentage; elsewhere the manufacturer calls the strain highly potent. Dutch Passion lists Shaman as an award-winning strain but does not specify the award. The seeds are feminised and photoperiod. The father strain is also available in our range as Purple Nr. 1.
Who Is Shaman For?
Shaman is a robust strain for growing under the open sky. It suits:
- Outdoor gardeners who value resistance to mould and bud rot
- Greenhouse growers with space for tall plants
- Lovers of purple-coloured flowers – about every second plant shows them
- Friends of classic genetics from the 1980s
- Consumers who prefer a clear head high to a heavy body effect
For small grow tents, this Sativa designed for open ground and the greenhouse is less suitable. You can find more Sativa-leaning strains under Sativa strains.
Growing Shaman: Indoor & Outdoor
Indoor Growing
Shaman was bred for open ground and the greenhouse; Dutch Passion gives no figures of its own for the grow room under artificial light. Under glass, flowering takes 7 to 8 weeks according to the manufacturer, while elsewhere it states an average of 8 weeks with a range of 7 to 9. As a yield per area, the breeder estimates about 400 g/m², without express reference to a grow room. If you grow the strain indoors nevertheless, you should send it into flower early because of the stretched Sativa growth and limit the height by tying down. You will find the basics on training and climate in the Growpedia.
Outdoor Growing
Outdoors, flowering lasts until late September or early October. According to the breeder, the strain is resistant to spider mites, mould and bud rot. Dutch Passion gives two figures for height: 1 to 1.5 m on average, but 2 to 3 m on average for the greenhouse; plants pre-grown for a long time can also reach over 3 m. In the greenhouse, several hundred grams per plant are possible, and with very good cultivation management the manufacturer considers 500 to 750 g achievable. Only grow where it is legal to do so.
Effect, Aroma & Flavour of Shaman
Dutch Passion describes the flavour of Shaman as soft, sweet and slightly woody, with the typical character of the Purple line. In the aroma, the breeder also names fruity, floral and spicy notes, occasionally sour tones and pine as well. It speaks of a complex terpene profile but does not list individual terpenes – the manufacturer does not state a lab terpene profile. The effect is a Sativa up high: a head high rather than a heavy body effect. The data sheet places strength and duration in the medium range, while elsewhere Dutch Passion speaks of a strong, sensual high. The breeder does not give a THC percentage. How intense the effect is depends on dose and personal tolerance.
