Manufacturer Information
Genetics & Origin of Snow Bud
Snow Bud is Dutch Passion's second “high-altitude strain”: a hybrid of an Afghan Indica and a South African Sativa. As with Pamir Gold, the selection took place in the Swiss Alps. The breeder gives the ratio as 60% Sativa and 40% Indica; elsewhere it speaks of around 60 to 75% Sativa. In the data sheet, Dutch Passion rates the THC content as very high but does not give a percentage; a medium content of around 8 to 12% is also stated. According to the manufacturer, the strain is resistant to mould and mildew and delivers above-average yields. It owes its name to the large number of white stigmas in the female flowers. Snow Bud is photoperiod and available exclusively as feminised seeds; flowering therefore only begins after the light cycle is switched or as the days grow shorter.
Who Is Snow Bud For?
Snow Bud was selected for harsh conditions. It suits:
- Outdoor gardeners in mountainous and high-altitude locations
- Growers in damper regions for whom resistance to mould and mildew is important
- Gardeners with room for plants around two metres tall
- Lovers of spicy, skunky aromas with a cinnamon note
- Consumers who prefer a head-focused Sativa high
If your main aim indoors is maximum yields, you will find higher-yielding strains – Dutch Passion states an average of 350 to 400 g/m² here. You can find more Sativa-leaning lines under Sativa strains.
Growing Snow Bud: Indoor & Outdoor
Indoor Growing
Dutch Passion describes Snow Bud primarily as an outdoor strain that also works well indoors. According to the manufacturer, the flowering time is around 8 weeks; the data sheet states 7 to 9 weeks. As the indoor yield, the breeder gives an average of 350 to 400 g/m², and up to around 450 g/m² under ideal conditions. It does not give a separate indoor height; it puts the average height of the strain at 1.5 to 2 m, so a short vegetative phase is worthwhile indoors. You will find the basics on light and climate in the Growpedia.
Outdoor Growing
Outdoors, Snow Bud is in its element: Dutch Passion calls it suitable for mountain locations and equally for the greenhouse. Well-grown plants reach 1.8 to 2.2 m; with early pre-cultivation, according to the manufacturer, even 2.5 to 3 m are possible. Flowering finishes from late September to early October. The breeder only puts a rough figure on the yield, at several hundred grams per plant. On top of this comes good resistance to mould, mildew and bud rot. Only grow where it is legal to do so.
Effect, Aroma & Flavour of Snow Bud
According to Dutch Passion, Snow Bud smells and tastes spicy – the breeder speaks of a cinnamon-like note – and skunky; in addition there are earthy tones and occasionally sweet and bitter nuances. According to the breeder, the smoke is very smooth. We have no confirmed information on individual terpenes. Dutch Passion describes the effect as a medium-strength, uplifting Sativa high with a strong head effect and only a mild body effect. The breeder speaks of a subtle but sufficiently powerful high; as for the THC content, its rating as very high and the statement of a medium content of around 8 to 12% stand side by side. Start with small amounts nonetheless. How intense the effect turns out depends on dose and individual tolerance.
