Manufacturer Information
Genetics & Origin of Speed Queen
According to Mandala Seeds, Speed Queen was a favourite among its own customers for over ten years and was brought back into the catalogue because of the great demand. The breeder gives the lineage as Himachal Pradesh, North India × P1/J3; the type is mainly Indica, and the THC content is 15 to 17%. The strain owes its name to its fast flowering and early harvest. Because flowering can set in almost by itself once the plant is large enough, Mandala calls it “semi-automatic” – it is not an autoflower. The seeds are regular, so they produce male and female plants. For breeding projects, the manufacturer recommends the strain for shortening plant height and flowering time and for increasing stress resistance. Satori Regular comes from the same house.
Who Is Speed Queen For?
Speed Queen is a short, sturdy Indica for growers who work with regular seeds. It suits:
- Selectors and hobby breeders looking for robust parent plants
- Growers with low rooms or a balcony who need short plants
- Outdoor gardeners in windy locations
- Fans of organic soil who want to intervene little
- Consumers who appreciate a relaxed, sociable effect
If you want only female plants without selection or want to work with LST and SCROG, you are less well served by this strain. Mandala Seeds describes it as very low-maintenance; in our shop it is nevertheless rated as a strain for experienced growers. You can find a wider selection under regular outdoor seeds.
Growing Speed Queen: Indoor & Outdoor
Indoor Growing
Indoors, according to Mandala Seeds, Speed Queen flowers for 55 days and delivers more than 350 g/m². The plants grow stocky and wide; Air-Pots of 3.5 to 5 litres are suitable, also placed close together with one central main bud each. The growth is too low for LST or SCROG, but early topping is possible and requires a week or more of vegetative growth beyond the usual four weeks. Because flowering can set in almost by itself, the breeder advises a light cycle of 20/4 in the vegetative phase. As light intensity it states 250 to 600 W HPS per m². Determine the sex in pre-flowering and remove male plants if pollination is not wanted. More on this in the Growpedia.
Outdoor Growing
Outdoors, Mandala Seeds states more than 850 g per plant. In northern locations from 46° North, harvest falls, depending on which figure you go by, between September and early or at the latest mid-October, and in a Mediterranean climate at the end of September or earlier. The strain is considered heat- and cold-tolerant, survives cold snaps down to freezing point according to the breeder and is storm-proof thanks to its sturdy stems. If you want short plants, germinate late – by the end of May or in the first week of June. Only grow where it is legal to do so.
Effect, Aroma & Flavour of Speed Queen
Mandala Seeds describes the aroma of Speed Queen as fruity, spicy and earthy. The range extends from mandarin and citrus fruit to spicy, skunky notes with a minty undertone – with regular seeds, such differences between individual plants are to be expected. The manufacturer does not give a lab terpene profile. It sums up the effect with the keywords happy, expansive, functional, social and relaxing: cerebral, thought-provoking and at the same time calming, intended for switching off and for leisure activities. Mandala calls this the “Surfer's High”. According to the breeder's fact sheet, the THC content is 15 to 17%. How strongly you feel the effect depends on dose, harvest time and personal tolerance.
