Genetics & Origin of Super Malawi Haze Standard
With Super Malawi Haze, Ace Seeds combines a Nevil's Haze mother plant which, according to the breeder, was selected by Neville himself in the late 1980s, with the house's best Malawi Killer phenotypes. The outcome is a very vigorous, highly productive hybrid with 90% Sativa and 10% Indica. Ace Seeds states 23 to 28% THC, less than 0.15% CBD and 0 to 1.5% CBG. Because it is a polyhybrid, it turns out more variable than a true F1 hybrid: the breeder describes three phenotypes – a Nevil's Haze type, a Malawi type and a rare, almost pure Haze type that occurs in fewer than 10% of plants. The seeds are regular, so they produce male and female plants. Another Haze strain from Ace Seeds is Super Panama Haze.
Who Is Super Malawi Haze Standard For?
Super Malawi Haze is a project for Sativa lovers with staying power. It suits:
- Selectors looking for a Haze mother plant from regular seeds
- Hobby breeders who want to carry on working with male plants
- Growers with plenty of room and patience for 11 to 16 weeks of flowering
- Outdoor gardeners in tropical, subtropical or Mediterranean locations
- Consumers with high tolerance looking for a clear, energetic effect
It is less suitable for small tents, short summers and anyone who would like to harvest quickly and exclusively female plants. You can find more regular lines under regular seeds.
Growing Super Malawi Haze Standard: Indoor & Outdoor
Indoor Growing
In the data sheet, Ace Seeds states 11 to 16 weeks of flowering, and for the phenotypes about 85 days (Malawi type), 85 to 90 days (Nevil's Haze type) and 90 to 120 days (rare Haze type). The large, heavily branched Sativa needs space and intense light. Ace recommends initiating flowering as early as 15 days after sowing or starting with clones rooted for at least 7 days, and advises a light cycle of 11/13 to avoid excessive stretching. SOG, SCROG or a net are suitable, with consistently high nutrient doses. The breeder calls the yield very high; a figure in g/m² is missing. Male plants show themselves in pre-flowering. More on this in the Growpedia.
Outdoor Growing
Outdoors, according to Ace Seeds, Super Malawi Haze is suited above all to tropical and subtropical climates; in warm coastal locations with a mild autumn, similar to the Mediterranean region, it succeeds up to about the 43rd parallel. Harvest falls in November to early December. In Central Europe that is very late for open ground; there, a greenhouse or indoor growing are what remain. The breeder rates the resistance to botrytis and heat as high, and to powdery mildew and spider mites as medium; it does not state a yield per plant. Only grow where it is legal to do so.
Effect, Aroma & Terpenes of Super Malawi Haze Standard
According to Ace Seeds, the bouquet is dominated by the terpenes of the Haze parents: sweet, floral notes of the Central American Sativa and woody tones of the classic Haze, plus a resinous, fermented background from the Malawi side. As a terpene profile, the breeder names high amounts of beta-pinene, moderate amounts of alpha-pinene, beta-myrcene and limonene and, among the sesquiterpenes, a lot of beta-caryophyllene and alpha-humulene, followed by guaiol. Ace describes the effect as highly potent, cerebral, creative and energetic, long-lasting and complex; it is said to motivate physical activity just as much as introspection. Within the Haze/Malawi lines, the breeder counts it among the least narcotic. At 23 to 28% THC it is very potent – dose carefully. The intensity depends on phenotype, dose and tolerance.
