Genetics & Origin of AK-47
According to the strain description, AK-47 is one of the most award-winning cannabis strains: over 22 awards worldwide are cited, including the High Times Cannabis Cup and the LIFT Expo. The genetics are given as Colombian × Mexican × Thai × Afghani. The result is a photoperiod hybrid with Sativa dominance; the strain description does not state percentages. According to the strain description, the strain bears its name not because of aggressiveness but because of its uncompromising effect. It became well known shortly after its release in the Amsterdam coffeeshops. At the 1999 Cannabis Cup, according to the strain description, it had the highest THC content in the lab test; there is no percentage for this. The seeds offered here are feminised. Serious 7 also comes from the same breeder.
Who Is AK-47 For?
AK-47 is a classic that, according to the strain description, meets the needs of beginners and professionals alike. It suits:
- Beginners looking for an easy-to-grow, low-maintenance strain
- Indoor growers who appreciate a short flowering time of 53 to 63 days
- Collectors looking for a much-awarded classic
- Lovers of spicy, earthy aromas with a slight sweetness
- Experienced consumers who prefer a strong, clear effect
If you have to be considerate of neighbours, you should bear the extremely intense smell in mind – without odour control the strain is less suitable in that case. You can find other uncomplicated strains under cannabis seeds for beginners.
Growing AK-47: Indoor & Outdoor
Indoor Growing
Indoors, AK-47 flowers for 53 to 63 days – astonishingly short for a Sativa-dominant strain, as the strain description emphasises. The plant stays medium-sized and quickly forms dense, resinous, compact buds with little leaf, which makes care and harvest easier. The yield is rated as high; the strain description does not state a figure in g/m² or a height in centimetres. The smell is extremely intense and pervasive, and odour control is expressly recommended – indoors a carbon filter takes care of this. The description contains no training tips. With compact flowers, good air movement in late flowering is advisable. You will find the basics for your first grow in the tips for beginners.
Outdoor Growing
Outdoors, AK-47 is harvested in early to mid-October. According to the strain description, the strain thrives in mild to warm climate zones. The smell is an issue outdoors too: the description advises growing outdoors only with odour control. The strain description does not state a yield per plant or a height for open ground. A sunny, sheltered spot helps to keep the flowers healthy into October. Only grow where it is legal to do so.
Effect, Aroma & Flavour of AK-47
The smell of AK-47 is extremely intense and pervasive. The strain description describes the flavour as spicy, earthy and slightly sweet with a note typical of Sativas; the smoke is considered strong but smooth. A lab terpene profile is not given. The effect is portrayed as strong, long-lasting, clear and pleasant – the description calls the strain a “one-hit wonder”. The THC content is given as very high, combined with a reference to the highest lab value at the 1999 Cannabis Cup; a percentage is missing. The strain description does not state a CBD value. Newcomers in particular should therefore start slowly. How intense the effect is depends on dose and tolerance.
Note: Effect information is based on manufacturer data and user experience and does not constitute medical advice.
