Genetics & Origin of Auto Northern Lights
Northern Lights is one of the great classics of the cannabis scene. For this strain, Pyramid Seeds has turned a rare old Northern Lights phenotype into an autoflowering version, which the breeder describes as compact, fast-flowering and robust. The manufacturer does not reveal which automatic line was crossed in for this; it lists the strain as 100% autoflower. The plants show fleshy, deep green leaves, thick flowers and a lot of resin. As cannabinoid values, Pyramid Seeds states 16% THC, 1.4% CBD and 0.4% CBN. According to the manufacturer, the strain won prizes at La Bella Flor 2006 and at Spannabis 2007. The seeds are feminised, and flowering sets in independently of the light cycle. From the same house, there is also the variant Auto Northern Lights CBD.
Who Is Auto Northern Lights For?
Auto Northern Lights combines old-school character with a short cycle. It suits:
- Beginners looking for a robust, pest-resistant autoflower
- Growers who want to grow inconspicuously and with compact plants
- Fans of the classic, sweet Northern Lights aroma
- Hydro growers as well as growers on soil or coco
- Consumers looking for a physically relaxing strain for the evening
If you are looking for a stimulating strain for the daytime, you are better served by a Sativa-leaning autoflower, and if you expect maximum yields outdoors, you should bear in mind the manufacturer's figure of 25 to 150 g per plant. You can find other Indica-leaning automatic strains under autoflowering Indica strains.
Growing Auto Northern Lights: Indoor & Outdoor
Indoor Growing
Indoors, according to Pyramid Seeds, Auto Northern Lights grows 60 to 150 cm tall and flowers for about 56 days; the light cycle does not need to be switched for this. The manufacturer states a yield of up to 600 g/m² under a 600-watt lamp. The strain is considered very robust and pest-resistant and, according to the breeder, works superbly in hydroponics, but also in soil and coco. Because autoflowers have little time to recover from stress, it is best to put the seeds directly into the final pot. A carbon filter keeps the intensely sweet smell in check. You will find tips for your first run in the Growpedia for beginners.
Outdoor Growing
Outdoors, Auto Northern Lights grows compact and sturdy. According to the manufacturer, harvest is due 63 to 70 days after germination, and the yield is 25 to 150 g per plant. Thanks to the short cycle, sowing can be scheduled for the warmest months. A sunny, sheltered spot delivers the best results, and the compact shape suits inconspicuous locations. Only grow where it is legal to do so.
Effect, Aroma & Flavour of Auto Northern Lights
According to Pyramid Seeds, smell and flavour are unmistakably Northern Lights: the scent is intensely sweet and slightly spicy, the flavour sweetish and resinous – an old-school aroma with a nostalgic note. The manufacturer does not give a lab terpene profile. It describes the effect as physically relaxing and gently narcotic, fitting for quiet evenings. According to the manufacturer, the THC content is 16%, plus 1.4% CBD and 0.4% CBN. According to the breeder, the thick flowers are heavily covered in resin. In its conclusion, the breeder specifically highlights the pleasantly relaxing high and the resin production. How intense the effect is depends on dose and individual tolerance.
