Manufacturer Information
Genetics & Origin of Black Russian
Black Russian was created at Delicious Seeds from two well-known Indica lines: White Russian and a famous Black Domina mother plant. The breeder gives the genotype as 80% Indica and 20% Sativa and states 24% THC; it does not state a CBD value. According to the strain description, the strain is known among growers in Spain for its characteristics. Two awards that Delicious Seeds lists fit in with this: 1st place in the Indoor category at the Canarias Cannabis Cup 2012 (Copa Asociaciones) and a 3rd place for a BHO extraction in Valencia. The manufacturer attributes the fruity-scented resin with citrus and earthy undertones to a probable Afghan origin. The seeds are feminised and photoperiod. White Russian is also available from us as a strain in its own right: White Russian by Serious Seeds.
Who Is Black Russian For?
Black Russian is a fast, resinous Indica. It suits:
- Beginners looking for a compact strain with a short flowering time
- Experienced growers who value award-winning genetics
- Outdoor gardeners who want to harvest as early as mid-September
- Extract lovers who process very resinous flowers
- Growers who want little work when trimming – the flowers carry hardly any leaves
Black Russian is less suitable for anyone looking for a stimulating daytime strain or needing a low-odour grow – the manufacturer describes the smell as strong. You can find more fast strains under High Yield & Short Flowering.
Growing Black Russian: Indoor & Outdoor
Indoor Growing
Indoors, according to Delicious Seeds, Black Russian ripens in 50 to 55 days, i.e. in around 7 to 8 weeks from the switch to 12/12. The manufacturer states 450 g/m². The plants grow compact and well branched and do not stretch excessively in flowering, which makes them easier to handle. The flowers become dense and carry only a few leaves, so trimming is quick. Delicious Seeds gives the resistance to mould and to pests as medium in each case, and the watering tolerance as high. With dense flowers and a strong smell, good air movement and a carbon filter make sense. The breeder does not state a height in centimetres. More on getting started in the Growpedia for beginners.
Outdoor Growing
Outdoors, according to the manufacturer, Black Russian is ripe in mid-September and yields 900 g per plant. The early harvest is an advantage in regions with a damp autumn, especially as the mould resistance is only given as medium. A sunny, airy location helps the dense flowers. Delicious Seeds does not state a growth height for outdoors. Only grow where it is legal to do so.
Effect, Aroma & Flavour of Black Russian
According to Delicious Seeds, Black Russian tastes sweet and citrusy – the breeder compares the flavour to a fruit salad with a dash of lemon juice. It gives the smell as strong, with intense citrus and earthy aromas; the resin also has a fruity scent. The manufacturer does not name individual terpenes or a lab terpene profile. It describes the effect as relaxing and long-lasting. According to its information, it sets in immediately and is noticeable straight after consumption, regardless of whether it is smoked or vaporised. Delicious Seeds gives the THC content as 24%, which puts Black Russian among the strong Indica strains. How intense the effect is depends on dose and individual tolerance.
