Genetics & Origin of Congo
Congo is an African-Pakistani hybrid from Ace Seeds. The breeder combines two different Congolese Sativas – named in the fact sheet as Bangi Congo and Congo #3 – with a touch of Chitral Indica. According to Ace Seeds, the Sativa side supplies the desired flowering traits and the cheerful, stimulating effect; the Pakistani Indica reduces size and flowering time, brings resistance to cold, fungi and pests and provides purple and magenta tones at the end of flowering. The ratio is 70% Sativa to 30% Indica. The breeder gives the values as 15 to 20% THC, under 1% CBD and 2.34% CBG. The seeds are regular and photoperiod, so male and female plants are produced. We carry the Indica parent individually as Pakistan Chitral Kush Regular.
Who Is Congo For?
Congo is a resilient Sativa hybrid with a manageable flowering time. It suits:
- Sativa fans looking for African genetics with 9 to 10 weeks of flowering
- Selectors and hobby breeders who work with regular seeds
- Outdoor gardeners in dry as well as humid climate zones
- Growers for whom resistance to cold, fungi and pests is important
- Consumers with an active, creative lifestyle who appreciate a clear effect
If you are looking for a heavy, body-focused Indica effect for the evening, you are less likely to find it here. You can find more regular strains for outdoors under regular outdoor seeds.
Growing Congo: Indoor & Outdoor
Indoor Growing
Indoors, Congo flowers for 9 to 10 weeks. Ace Seeds credits the strain with excellent adaptability to indoor growing and describes a vigorous Sativa of medium size with a large main cola and good side branching. The breeder rates the yield as average to high; it does not state a figure in g/m² or a height in centimetres. For feeding, it recommends a medium amount in the vegetative phase and later a slightly higher dose of PK. Because the seeds are regular, you determine the sex in pre-flowering and remove male plants if no pollination is wanted. Flowering only begins after the switch to 12/12. You will find the basics in the Growpedia.
Outdoor Growing
Outdoors, according to Ace Seeds, Congo ripens in the second to third week of October. The strain can be grown in many climate zones, dry or humid; it is particularly recommended for warm climates, but it also copes in temperate zones with a colder start to autumn. The breeder names latitudes 0 to 45 and rates the resistance to botrytis, cold and heat as high, and to powdery mildew, spider mites and whitefly as average to high. It does not give a yield per plant. Only grow where it is legal to do so.
Effect, Aroma & Flavour of Congo
Ace Seeds describes the flavour of Congo with aromas of flower petals and wild strawberries. According to the breeder, the terpene profile has not yet been analysed – so there are no lab values for it. It calls the effect high-quality, clean, positive and energetic and sees it as suited to an open-minded, creative and active lifestyle; elsewhere there is mention of the strong, uplifting, cheerful and stimulating effect of the Congolese parent lines. The THC content is 15 to 20%, the CBD content under 1%, and there is also 2.34% CBG. With regular seeds, individual plants can turn out differently. How intense the effect is in an individual case depends on phenotype, dose and individual tolerance.
