Manufacturer Information
Genetics & Origin of Gelato
Gelato comes from the Cookie family of California's Bay Area and is one of the most influential US genetics of recent years. The strain is a cross of Sunset Sherbet and Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies, two lines that stand for dessert aromas and high potency. Nirvana offers Gelato as a balanced hybrid with a THC content of more than 20%. The seeds are feminised and photoperiod, so flowering only begins after the light cycle is switched. Visually, the strain stands out with bright orange pistils and purple to magenta tones. Many modern strains build on these genetics: Runtz by Barney's Farm, for example, is a cross of Zkittlez and Gelato. You can find more strains of American origin under US Genetics.
Who Is Gelato For?
Gelato is easy to grow but powerful in effect. It suits:
- Novice growers looking for a forgiving strain
- Fans of the Cookie family and sweet dessert aromas
- Growers who value colourful, easy-to-trim flowers
- Consumers with a high tolerance who want a very strong strain
- Indoor growers who work in a Sea of Green
Because of its strength, the strain is less suitable for occasional consumers with a low tolerance. You can find more uncomplicated strains under cannabis seeds for beginners.
Growing Gelato: Indoor & Outdoor
Indoor Growing
Indoors, Gelato flowers for 8 to 10 weeks and grows 120 to 150 cm tall. Nirvana states 450 to 550 g/m² in a Sea of Green. The manufacturer describes the strain as easy and forgiving and also recommends it to beginners. Plant training is advisable to limit the height and distribute the light evenly. The work after harvest is pleasant: according to Nirvana, the flowers are very easy to trim. Because of the intense smell, a carbon filter makes sense, and good air movement keeps the dense flowers dry in late flowering. The tips for beginners offer help with getting started.
Outdoor Growing
For growing outdoors, Nirvana does not give separate figures for height, yield or harvest time. With 8 to 10 weeks of flowering, the strain does not finish ripening in Central Europe until October; a warm, sunny spot that is sheltered from rain is therefore important. If you grow in cool, damp regions, a greenhouse puts you on the safe side. Only grow where it is legal to do so.
Effect, Aroma & Terpenes of Gelato
Nirvana describes Gelato's terpene profile as earthy, peppery and spicy, joined by sweet cookie dough with a strong citrus note. The manufacturer does not give lab values for individual terpenes. According to Nirvana, the effect is very strong and above all physical, with a narcotic touch and a dreamy mood. The breeder therefore recommends the strain for consumers with a high tolerance; those who have it will, by its account, experience a creative and focused head. At more than 20% THC, cautious dosing makes sense. How intense the effect is depends on dose and individual tolerance.
