Genetics & Origin of Gelato
Gelato comes from the Bay Area in California and is one of the West Coast strains that Original Sensible Seeds has brought to the European market. Its lineage combines Sunset Sherbet with Girl Scout Cookies, more precisely with the Thin Mint phenotype. The breeder calls the strain predominantly Indica; the data sheet gives 55% Indica and 45% Sativa. It gives the THC content as 25% and speaks of a THC powerhouse; it does not state a CBD value. Visually, dark purple hues stand out, contrasting with fiery orange hairs and a sparkling layer of resin. Original Sensible Seeds lists caryophyllene as the dominant terpene, along with humulene and limonene. The seeds are feminised and photoperiod. The same breeder also offers the Cookies side on its own as Girl Scout Cookies.
Who Is Gelato For?
Gelato is a potent dessert strain with plenty of colour. It suits:
- Fans of Californian genetics from Sunset Sherbet and Girl Scout Cookies
- Indoor growers who can plan for 60 to 65 days of flowering and a height of up to 160 cm
- Yield-focused growers aiming for around 550 g/m²
- Lovers of creamy, sweet aromas with citrus, vanilla and chocolate mint
- Consumers with a high tolerance who appreciate a powerful rush of euphoria
Gelato is less suitable for occasional consumers: given this potency, the manufacturer expressly advises newcomers to be cautious. You can find larger packs under Bulk Seeds.
Growing Gelato: Indoor & Outdoor
Indoor Growing
Original Sensible Seeds gives the flowering time as 60 to 65 days, counted from the switch to 12/12. Indoors, the plants grow 100 to 160 cm tall – so plan for enough headroom or keep them flat with topping and a net. The manufacturer states around 550 g/m² under good conditions as the yield. The resin-coated flowers benefit from good air movement and controlled humidity in the final weeks; cooler nights towards the end of flowering can accentuate the purple tones. You will find the basics on climate and training in the Growpedia.
Outdoor Growing
Outdoors, according to the manufacturer, Gelato reaches 120 to 180 cm. For the yield, it states over 750 g per plant, and elsewhere 800 g in a warm, sunny climate. October is given as the harvest time. In cooler regions, a sheltered, sunny spot or a greenhouse therefore makes sense so that the flowers ripen before longer spells of rain. Only grow where it is legal to do so.
Effect, Aroma & Terpenes of Gelato
Original Sensible Seeds describes a creamy terpene profile with sweet dessert notes, complemented by citrus zest, vanilla custard, chocolate mint and a light peppery spice. According to the manufacturer, the dominant terpene is caryophyllene, accompanied by humulene and limonene; it does not give measured values. According to its information, the effect sets in with a powerful rush of euphoria that comes in waves, closely followed by heavy physical relaxation. According to the breeder, many people remain productive and creative, even during the day. At the same time it warns: newcomers should beware; it is above all consumers with a high tolerance who feel at home here. The THC content is 25%. How intense the effect is depends on dose and personal tolerance.
