Genetics & Origin of K.C. 39
According to the manufacturer, K.C. 39 is a joint breeding project between Spanish seed selectors and KC Brains. For it, the breeder crossed seeds from a Spanish friend dating from 1996 with a K.C. 606 from 1999; KC Brains does not say exactly which Spanish strain that was. The result is a stable, predominantly Indica-leaning hybrid for indoors and outdoors – an exact Indica/Sativa ratio is missing. The plants are dark green and can become bushy under optimal conditions. KC Brains highlights its resilience: the strain is said to be very resistant to pests, fungi and diseases. The manufacturer gives the THC content as about 20%. The seeds of this item are feminised and photoperiod, so flowering only begins after the light cycle is switched. If you want to select or breed yourself, you will also find the strain as K.C. 39 Regular.
Who Is K.C. 39 For?
K.C. 39 is an uncomplicated, robust strain with strengths outdoors. It suits:
- Beginners: the manufacturer calls it ideal for beginners because of its uncomplicated growth
- Outdoor gardeners with plenty of space for plants 2 to 3 m tall
- Growers who value resistance to pests and fungi
- Indoor growers who grow in pots with soil and want compact plants
- Fans of citrus and hash aromas
It is less suitable outdoors for small gardens or balconies, because it grows very tall there. You can find more strains for outdoors under feminised outdoor seeds.
Growing K.C. 39: Indoor & Outdoor
Indoor Growing
Indoors, according to KC Brains, flowering takes 7 to 9 weeks; elsewhere the manufacturer states around 8 weeks. The plants keep their short growth and do not grow taller than 120 cm. According to the manufacturer, they perform excellently in pots with soil. The breeder does not state a yield in g/m². Because the strain grows bushy under good conditions, it helps to thin out the lower foliage and ensure air movement. The citrus-hash scent becomes more intense as the plant ripens – a carbon filter therefore makes sense. The Growpedia with tips for beginners explains the first steps.
Outdoor Growing
Outdoors, according to the manufacturer, K.C. 39 reaches 2 to 3 m. Harvest begins at the end of September and can drag on into October; outdoors, flowering takes up to 11 weeks. KC Brains states a yield of up to 1,000 g per plant. The breeder advises first finding a safe spot with good midday sun, and names hard, sun-baked clay soil as the second obstacle – so loosen the soil thoroughly or set the plant in a large planting hole with good soil. The resistance to pests and fungi benefits the strain outdoors. Only grow where it is legal to do so.
Effect, Aroma & Flavour of K.C. 39
According to the manufacturer, K.C. 39 gives off a very pleasant citrus-hash scent that becomes more intense in fully ripened flowers. KC Brains describes the flowers as large, robust and densely covered with sticky white hairs. The breeder gives no information on the flavour or individual terpenes; the manufacturer does not give a lab terpene profile. KC Brains describes the effect briefly as rather heavy and relaxing. The breeder counts K.C. 39 among the strongest strains and states a THC content of about 20%; it gives no further details on the character of the high. At around 20% THC you should start cautiously – how intense the effect is depends on dose and individual tolerance.
