Manufacturer Information
Genetics & Origin of NL5 x Haze
NL5 x Haze is a strain with history: it was created in the late 1980s and, as Mr. Nice presents it, is regarded as a milestone of modern cannabis breeding. The breeders Nevil and Shantibaba combined the high-yielding Indica Northern Lights #5 with Original Haze. The outcome was a Sativa-dominant hybrid that combines the power of Haze with greater ease of cultivation. According to the manufacturer, many well-known polyhybrids go back directly or indirectly to this cross. Mr. Nice gives the THC content as high without putting a figure on it; it does not state percentages of Indica and Sativa. The seeds are regular and photoperiod: male and female plants are produced, which makes selection and breeding work of your own possible. You will find the same cross from another breeder in Northern Lights Nr. 5 x Haze Regular by Sensi Seeds.
Who Is NL5 x Haze For?
NL5 x Haze demands time, space and experience and in return brings the classic Haze character. It suits:
- Experienced growers who plan for 9 to 11 weeks of flowering
- Selectors and hobby breeders who work with regular seeds
- SCROG growers who steer growth through training
- Collectors of historic Haze genetics
- Experienced consumers looking for a clear, intense Sativa high
The strain is less suitable for beginners: flowering takes a long time, and outdoors it does not ripen until November. You can find more strains of this kind under Classics and Landraces.
Growing NL5 x Haze: Indoor & Outdoor
Indoor Growing
Indoors, NL5 x Haze flowers for 9 to 11 weeks. Mr. Nice states 450 to 650 g/m², depending on the length of the vegetative phase and the grower's experience. The plants grow medium-tall to tall, with the pre-flowering phase determining the final height – if you switch to 12/12 early, you keep them lower. According to the manufacturer, the strain responds well to training techniques and is also suitable for SCROG. It also credits it with good resistance to mould. As these are regular seeds, you germinate more seeds than the number of plants you want to keep and sort out the males in pre-flowering, unless you want to breed. You will find the basics on training in the Growpedia.
Outdoor Growing
Outdoors, NL5 x Haze does not ripen until November in the Northern Hemisphere. This requires a warm climate with a long, dry autumn; in cooler regions a greenhouse, which the manufacturer also names as a place to grow, is the safer choice. Under ideal conditions, according to Mr. Nice, high yields are possible, but it does not give a figure per plant. Only grow where it is legal to do so.
Effect, Aroma & Flavour of NL5 x Haze
The scent of NL5 x Haze is spicy-sweet with earthy and woody notes. For the flavour, Mr. Nice describes typical Haze nuances, citrus and a light herbal note – classic Haze overall, but with more depth thanks to the NL5 share. The manufacturer does not state a lab terpene profile. It portrays the effect as a clear, intense Sativa rush that lasts a long time and suits creative phases and active days. It expressly addresses the high to experienced consumers. Mr. Nice gives the THC content as high; a percentage is missing. With regular seeds, individual plants can turn out differently. How intense the effect is depends on phenotype, dose and individual tolerance.
Note: Effect information is based on manufacturer data and user experience and does not constitute medical advice.
