What is Shogun? Shogun by Royal Queen Seeds is a feminised, photoperiod Sativa hybrid of Amnesia Haze × Gorilla Glue 4 with 70% Sativa and 30% Indica. It flowers for 9 to 11 weeks, grows 90 to 140 cm tall indoors and, according to the manufacturer, yields 550 to 600 g/m² with 25% THC. The aroma is earthy and pungent with a pine note, and the effect is described as cerebral, focusing and at the same time relaxing. Growing is considered relatively easy and beginner-friendly; however, the harvest at the end of October demands a warm climate – in the Sativa strains category. Manufacturer Information
Genetics & Origin of Shogun
Shogun goes back to two very different parents. The breeders at Royal Queen Seeds chose Amnesia Haze for its high THC content, its productivity and its Sativa dominance. As the second parent, the data sheet names Gorilla Glue 4; elsewhere it is the in-house Royal Gorilla, which the breeder describes as having 25% THC and a balanced Sativa-Indica ratio and traces back to Sour Dubb, Chem Sis and Chocolate Diesel. Shogun is meant to balance the traits of both sides: according to the manufacturer, the Sativa dominance of 70% comes from Amnesia Haze, the high THC value from both parents. 25% THC and a low CBD content are stated. The seeds are feminised and photoperiod. You will also find both parent lines individually in our range: Royal Gorilla and Amnesia Haze.
Who Is Shogun For?
Shogun is a powerful Sativa for head and concentration. It suits:
- Beginners looking for a photoperiod strain that, according to the manufacturer, is relatively easy to grow
- Growers who can plan for up to 11 weeks of flowering
- Outdoor gardeners in warm locations with a long autumn
- Consumers who appreciate a stimulating, focusing effect for the daytime
- Fans of earthy pine aromas
It is less suitable for short summers: in cool regions, the harvest at the end of October often comes too late. You can find faster alternatives under High Yield & Short Flowering.
Growing Shogun: Indoor & Outdoor
Indoor Growing
Royal Queen Seeds calls Shogun relatively easy to grow and a suitable photoperiod strain for beginners; it is said to cope with different conditions. There are two things you should plan for: flowering takes 9 to 11 weeks and is therefore longer than with many hybrids, and according to the manufacturer the strain needs a large amount of nutrients. Indoors, the plants reach 90 to 140 cm. The yield is given as 550 to 600 g/m². At this height, it is worth tying the shoots down early or stretching a net so that the light arrives evenly. You will find the basics on feeding and training under tips for beginners.
Outdoor Growing
Outdoors, Shogun grows 150 to 190 cm tall and, according to the breeder, yields 650 to 750 g per plant. The data sheet names the end of October as the harvest month and "warm" as the preferred climate. That is late: in regions with a wet, cool autumn, a greenhouse or a very sheltered spot is the more realistic choice. Only grow where it is legal to do so.
Effect, Aroma & Flavour of Shogun
Shogun is named after ancient Japanese warriors, and Royal Queen Seeds picks up the image for the effect: it is said to be like a whetstone for a samurai sword. The manufacturer describes a stimulating effect that increases attention and concentration, combined with a state of calm contentment; the data sheet says "cerebral and relaxing". It compares this to a cup of coffee and recommends the strain before tasks that demand focus or before physical activity. In terms of flavour, according to the breeder, Shogun is reminiscent of a walk through a coniferous forest: rich in earth and pine wood, plus a pungent note. It does not name individual terpenes; the manufacturer does not give a lab terpene profile. With 25% THC, Shogun is very potent. How intense the effect is depends on dose and tolerance.
