Manufacturer Information
Genetics & Origin of Skunk XL
Skunk XL is Royal Queen Seeds' answer to one of the most influential hybrids of all: the breeder describes it as a modern, reworked version of Skunk #1. It gives the genetics as Colombian × Mexican × Afghan, i.e. landraces from Colombia, Mexico and Afghanistan, and the ratio as 50% Sativa and 50% Indica. According to the manufacturer, the reworking brings huge flowers and high yield potential with easy cultivation. The THC content is about 17%; Royal Queen Seeds calls the CBD content “medium” without putting a figure on it. The seeds are feminised and photoperiod, so flowering only begins after the light cycle is switched. For comparison, you will find Skunk #1 by Barney's Farm in our range and, from the same breeder as regular seed, Skunk XL Regular.

- SOG and SCROG growers in soil or hydro
- Outdoor gardeners in warm, sunny regions
- Consumers who like a balanced effect that is not too heavy
It is less suitable for anyone looking for peak THC values: the manufacturer states around 17%. You can find more strains of this kind under High Yield & Short Flowering.
Growing Skunk XL: Indoor & Outdoor
Indoor Growing
Indoors, Skunk XL grows 60 to 100 cm tall and flowers for 7 to 8 weeks. Royal Queen Seeds states 600 to 650 g/m². The plant grows compact to medium-sized, stays easy to control and hardly stretches in flowering – which is why the manufacturer recommends it for SOG and SCROG, in soil as well as in hydro. The large flowers benefit from good air movement in the final weeks, and a carbon filter is advisable against the classic Skunk smell. The breeder describes cultivation as easy. If it is your first grow, you will find the most important steps in the Growpedia's tips for beginners.
Outdoor Growing
Outdoors, according to the fact sheet, Skunk XL reaches 160 to 200 cm; elsewhere the manufacturer says that it can also grow over 2 m tall. In the Northern Hemisphere, harvest falls at the beginning of October, and Royal Queen Seeds states 625 to 675 g per plant. The strain delivers the best results in a warm climate, for example in Spain or Italy. In cooler regions, a sheltered spot in full sun helps the large flowers to ripen safely. Only grow where it is legal to do so.
Effect, Aroma & Flavour of Skunk XL
According to Royal Queen Seeds, Skunk XL smells sweetish and fruity with the classic Skunk undertone; the manufacturer describes the flavour as fruity and pleasantly smooth. The manufacturer does not state a lab terpene profile. By its account, the effect begins with a fast head high, followed by a slowly building, relaxing body effect. Royal Queen Seeds calls it creative and balancing, not too heavy and not too light, and recommends the strain for the daytime as well as for the evening. The THC content is about 17%, and the CBD content is given as medium. How intense the effect is nevertheless depends on dose and individual tolerance – start with a small amount if you do not know the strain yet.
