Manufacturer Information
Genetics & Origin of White Widow XXL
At Barney's Farm, White Widow is considered a true Amsterdam classic, whose sharp, skunky and spicy-sweet aromas the breeder associates with the smell of Amsterdam's streets and canals. It sees the XXL version as the next stage of development: it retains the Brazilian Sativa high and combines it with an improved, very resinous South Indian Indica. Accordingly, the genetics are Brazilian × South Indian, with a ratio of 75% Indica to 25% Sativa. The seeds are feminised and photoperiod. Barney's Farm gives the THC content as 28%. The resin production is striking: a dense layer of trichomes makes the colas appear almost white. For comparison with other lines, White Widow by Silent Seeds and the autoflowering Auto White Widow by Nirvana are good options.
Who Is White Widow XXL For?
According to Barney's Farm, White Widow XXL is an extremely versatile plant. It suits:
- Beginners looking for a resilient and uncomplicated strain
- Outdoor gardeners in cooler regions who want to harvest in early October
- Growers with space who can raise plants of around two metres outdoors
- Lovers of classic aromas with skunk, citrus and pine
- Consumers who prefer a stimulating, talkative effect
It is less suitable for anyone looking for a calming strain to switch off with – the manufacturer describes the effect as energetic. You can find more proven lines under Classics and Landraces.
Growing White Widow XXL: Indoor & Outdoor
Indoor Growing
White Widow XXL grows in classic Indica form: compact, vigorous and fast, with strong branches that develop bushy and wide before flowering. Indoors it reaches 100 to 120 cm. The data sheet gives the flowering time as 60 to 65 days, while elsewhere the manufacturer says "within 9 weeks". Barney's Farm states an indoor yield of up to 650 g/m². Once flowering begins, large, heavy, very sticky buds form, whose flower columns can be more reminiscent of a Sativa. With this weight, it makes sense to support the side branches in good time. The manufacturer highlights the resistance to mould and pests. You can find more on climate and support techniques in the Growpedia.
Outdoor Growing
Outdoors, according to Barney's Farm, the strain reaches two metres "relatively easily". Harvest takes place in the first to second week of October. The breeder puts the outdoor yield at up to 2 kg per plant – a maximum value that requires large plants and good conditions. As White Widow XXL also copes well in colder climate zones according to the manufacturer, it is an option for more northerly locations. Only grow where it is legal to do so.
Effect, Aroma & Flavour of White Widow XXL
Barney's Farm speaks of an exotic terpene profile: sharp, skunky and sweet citrus aromas on the nose, together with an earthy, pine-wood and spicy flavour. The data sheet sums up the aroma as sweet, sharp, fruity, spicy and pine-like, and the flavour as fruity and spicy with pine. The manufacturer does not name the individual terpenes behind this. It describes the effect with five terms: creative, uplifting, energetic, talkative and euphoric. This fits with the Brazilian Sativa high that, according to the breeder, the strain has retained despite 75% Indica. According to the manufacturer, the THC content is 28%, which makes the strain very potent. How intensely you experience the effect depends on dose and individual tolerance.
