Manufacturer Information
Genetics & Origin of AK-48
AK strains have been firmly established since the 1990s, and according to the strain description AK-48 is one of the fastest and most robust representatives of this line. Nirvana lists it as an Indica/Sativa hybrid; the breeder has not published details of the cross, nor does it state a ratio of the shares. The description highlights the extremely short flowering time as a special feature: under ideal conditions, just 48 days are possible. It gives the THC content as “high” and the CBD content as “medium” – percentage figures are missing. With optimal care, a rare phenotype with an intense cherry aroma can appear, which Nirvana calls “Cherrylicious”. The seeds are feminised and photoperiod. Nirvana also offers the same strain as the autoflowering Auto AK-48 and as AK-48 Regular.
Who Is AK-48 For?
AK-48 is a fast, robust hybrid. It suits:
- Beginners looking for a strain that forgives mistakes
- Growers who plan fast runs in a Sea of Green
- Fans of the AK line with a liking for hard, compact flowers
- Experienced growers who want to select for the cherry phenotype
- Consumers looking for a clear, mood-brightening high for the daytime
If you are looking for a heavy, body-focused evening strain, you are better served by an Indica – AK-48 is less suitable for that. You can find more fast, high-yielding strains under High Yield & Short Flowering.
Growing AK-48: Indoor & Outdoor
Indoor Growing
Indoors, Nirvana states a flowering time of 7 to 9 weeks; under ideal conditions, plants are said to be finished from as little as 48 days. To be on the safe side, plan for the longer span and judge ripeness by the trichomes. According to the manufacturer, the yield is 400 to 500 g/m², particularly good in a Sea of Green. AK-48 is considered very robust and forgiving of mistakes and forms hard, compact flowers with a dense layer of resin. Such flowers benefit from good air movement in the final weeks. The breeder does not give a plant height in centimetres. You will find the most important basics in the tips for beginners.
Outdoor Growing
Outdoors or in a greenhouse, according to Nirvana, AK-48 is ready for harvest in early to mid-October, depending on the climate. The plants stay medium-tall. The manufacturer does not state a yield per plant. A sunny, sheltered spot helps to bring in the harvest before the wet autumn weather; in cooler locations the greenhouse is the safer choice. Only grow where it is legal to do so.
Effect, Aroma & Flavour of AK-48
According to Nirvana, AK-48 smells sweetish, earthy and slightly floral; the flavour is described as fruity-sweet with floral notes. Rare phenotypes develop an intense cherry aroma. The manufacturer does not give a lab terpene profile. It describes the effect as clearly Sativa-dominant: euphoric, happy and mood-brightening, clear-headed and without couch-lock, and relaxing at the same time – as it presents it, a strain for the daytime. Nirvana gives the THC content only as “high”, and a figure is missing; in the shop the strain is classed in the 11 to 19% bracket, which is merely an approximation. How intense the effect is depends on dose and individual tolerance.
