Manufacturer Information
Genetics & Origin of NL5 x Afghan
NL5 x Afghan comes from the catalogue of the Mr. Nice Seedbank and bears the signature of the breeders Nevil and Shantibaba. The starting point is Northern Lights #5 and selected Afghan landraces; Mr. Nice describes how various landraces of Afghanistan were brought together in one plant for it. The result is an Indica-dominant hybrid with stable growth and a classic Afghani profile – the manufacturer does not state percentages. For THC and CBD too, there is only the classification “high” and “low” respectively, no figures. The seeds are regular and photoperiod: male and female plants grow from them, so you can select, choose mother plants or carry on breeding yourself. A sister line from the same house is NL5 x Skunk Regular.
Who Is NL5 x Afghan For?
NL5 x Afghan is a compact, fast Indica line. It suits:
- Beginners who want to gain their first experience with regular seeds
- Experienced growers and selectors in search of a mother plant
- Greenhouse gardeners and growers with a short outdoor season – the manufacturer particularly recommends the strain for this
- Lovers of classic Afghani aromas with a spicy, earthy note
- Consumers looking for a body-focused, calming effect
The strain is less suitable for permanently damp locations, because according to the manufacturer it is susceptible to mould when humidity is high during flowering. You can find more lines of this kind under Classics and Landraces.
Growing NL5 x Afghan: Indoor & Outdoor
Indoor Growing
Indoors, NL5 x Afghan flowers for 7 to 9 weeks according to Mr. Nice and delivers 500 to 750 g/m². The plants stay compact and flower quickly; the manufacturer does not state a height in centimetres. The climate is important: Mr. Nice points out that the strain is prone to mould when humidity is high during flowering. So keep humidity low in the final weeks, ensure strong air circulation and check the flowers regularly. As the seeds are regular, you determine the sex in pre-flowering and remove the males if pollination is not wanted. You will find the basics on this in the Growpedia's tips for beginners.
Outdoor Growing
Outdoors, NL5 x Afghan is ready for harvest in mid-October in the northern hemisphere, and in March or April in the southern hemisphere. Mr. Nice particularly recommends the strain for greenhouses and for short outdoor seasons. The breeder's advice applies outside too: if the first signs of mould appear in damp weather, you should harvest immediately and not wait for the last degree of ripeness. The manufacturer does not give a yield per plant or an outdoor height. Only grow where it is legal to do so.
Effect, Aroma & Flavour of NL5 x Afghan
According to Mr. Nice, the scent of NL5 x Afghan is spicy and earthy with fruity undertones, the flavour strongly Afghan with a sweetish-tart note. According to the manufacturer, the strain becomes particularly aromatic during drying and curing. Mr. Nice does not state a terpene profile. The breeder describes the effect as body-focused, calming and relaxing; it counts the line among its most reliable strains in terms of effect. The manufacturer classes the THC content as high and the CBD content as low – there are no percentage values, and we do not add any. With regular seeds, individual plants can turn out slightly differently. How strong the effect is also depends on dose and personal tolerance.
Note: Effect information is based on manufacturer data and user experience and does not constitute medical advice.
