Genetics & Origin of Top 44
Top 44 was created at Nirvana from the cross of Skunk #1 with Viking, which the breeder calls its best Afghani. The aim was speed: Nirvana calls it one of the fastest-flowering hybrids of all. The outcome is a short, stocky and very resilient plant with clear Indica dominance; the manufacturer does not state a ratio in per cent. According to Nirvana, the THC content was tested at 15 to 20%. This item contains regular, photoperiod seed: male and female plants grow from the seeds, which also makes the strain interesting for selecting a mother plant and for crosses of your own. If you only want female plants, you will also find Top 44 by Nirvana as a separate item; the parent strain is available, for example, as Skunk #1 Regular from Barney's Farm.
Who Is Top 44 For?
Top 44 is a fast, undemanding strain for small spaces. It suits:
- Beginners looking for a low-maintenance, forgiving strain
- Growers with limited room height or a sunny balcony
- Outdoor gardeners in regions with short summers who want to harvest quickly
- Selectors and hobby breeders who work with regular seeds
- Lovers of classic, earthy Skunk aromas
It is less suitable if you want to manage without sorting out male plants – in that case feminised seed is the better choice. You can find more proven lines under Classics and Landraces.
Growing Top 44: Indoor & Outdoor
Indoor Growing
Indoors, according to Nirvana, Top 44 flowers for 7 to 9 weeks. The plants stay low and bushy, double their height after the start of flowering and form productive side branches as well as a main cola. The breeder recommends topping and LST and especially dense planting in a Sea of Green; for this it states 400 to 500 g/m². Short internodes and dense, golf-ball-sized flowers make the plants easy to trim. With regular seed, it is best to germinate more seeds than the number of plants you want to keep, determine the sex in pre-flowering and remove the male plants unless pollination is wanted. A carbon filter helps against the pungent aroma. The Growpedia with tips for beginners explains the first steps.
Outdoor Growing
Outdoors, according to the manufacturer, Top 44 thrives in all climate zones and, because of its fast flowering, is particularly suitable for regions with short summers. Nirvana expressly recommends it for sunny balconies and terraces; the low growth habit suits this. The breeder does not state a harvest month or a yield per plant. Outdoors too, the rule is: identify and remove male plants in good time if you want to harvest seedless flowers. Only grow where it is legal to do so.
Effect, Aroma & Flavour of Top 44
After flowering, Top 44 gives off a pungent, earthy Skunk aroma which, according to Nirvana, hangs in the air for a long time. The breeder describes the flavour as deep, fat and earthy with a classic floral Skunk touch that is meant to appeal above all to fans of Kush hybrids. The manufacturer does not give a lab terpene profile. According to Nirvana, the effect is calming rather than cerebral: at first a balanced high with clarity and motivation is to the fore, and after a while the physical effect comes through more clearly – a strain for relaxing. It was tested at 15 to 20% THC. How intense the effect is depends on dose and individual tolerance.
