Manufacturer Information
Genetics & Origin of AK-48
AK strains have been perennial favourites since the 1990s, and AK-48 is considered one of the fastest and most robust representatives of this line. Nirvana keeps quiet about the exact lineage: only the AK line is stated, and the details of the cross have not been published. The strain is listed as an Indica/Sativa hybrid whose effect, according to Nirvana, is clearly Sativa-dominated. As a special feature, the breeder names the extremely short flowering time, which can be just 48 days under ideal conditions. Nirvana only describes the THC content as high; a percentage is missing. The seed is regular and photoperiod: it produces male and female plants, and flowering only starts after the switch to 12/12. Nirvana also offers an AK-48 without the suffix Regular and an Auto AK-48.
Who Is AK-48 For?
AK-48 is a fast, uncomplicated hybrid. It suits:
- Beginners looking for a robust, forgiving strain
- Growers who rely on short runs in a Sea of Green
- Selectors hoping for the rare cherry phenotype “Cherrylicious”
- Hobby breeders who want to carry on working with male plants
- Consumers looking for a euphoric, clear-headed high for the daytime
If you only want female plants without selection or expect a heavy couch-lock effect, this is not the best fit. You can find more lines with both sexes under regular seeds.
Growing AK-48: Indoor & Outdoor
Indoor Growing
Indoors, AK-48 flowers for 7 to 9 weeks according to Nirvana; under ideal conditions, harvest is possible from as little as 48 days, according to the manufacturer. The breeder states a yield of 400 to 500 g/m², and according to it, the strain achieves particularly good results in a Sea of Green. The flowers are hard and compact with a dense layer of resin. The manufacturer calls AK-48 very robust and forgiving and its cultivation uncomplicated. With optimal care, according to Nirvana, the rare “Cherrylicious” phenotype with an intense cherry aroma can appear. With regular seeds, you determine the sex in pre-flowering and remove male plants unless you want pollination. Nirvana does not put a figure on the indoor height. Help for getting started is provided by the Growpedia with tips for beginners.
Outdoor Growing
Outdoors or in the greenhouse, AK-48 is ready for harvest in early to mid October according to Nirvana, depending on the climate. The breeder gives the plant height as medium without stating centimetres; it does not put a figure on the yield per plant and only speaks of reliable yields. Nirvana describes the strain as very robust and forgiving. A sunny spot helps the compact flowers to ripen before the autumn damp sets in. Only grow where it is legal to do so.
Effect, Aroma & Flavour of AK-48
According to Nirvana, AK-48 smells sweetish, earthy and slightly floral; for the flavour, the breeder names fruity-sweet and floral notes. Rare phenotypes develop an intense cherry aroma that Nirvana calls “Cherrylicious”. The manufacturer does not give a lab terpene profile. It describes the high as clearly Sativa-dominated, euphoric and uplifting, at the same time happy and relaxing – for switching off without couch-lock and with a clear head, also for the daytime. The manufacturer only describes the THC content as high, Nirvana does not give a percentage; the CBD content is not quantified either. With regular seeds, individual plants can differ from one another in aroma and effect. How intense the effect is depends on dose and individual tolerance.
